Question about DishPro Quad modes..

A diseqc #1 command will put the connected to port on 119 sat and diseqc #2 will put the port on 110 sat. No DP LNB ports can do two sats at the same time, a DP Plus twin can with special codes.

The only satellites that use circular are Echostar 110, 119, 129, 61.5, 148 and 118.7 (circular but at linear frequency range), and Bell 82 and 91. And the directv satellites. The twin or quad will only be useful with two at 9~10 degree separation, i.e. 110/119, 119/129 or 82/91. And with all of these you either pay a subscription, or only get a couple of "free" channels, or do something illegal.

You are right though on one point, the linear (superdish) LNBFs are great and will work with any of the linear satellites. You could use one of these pointed at your favorite linear satellite, going to many FTA receivers (stacked via LNB OUT ports or split with dc blocks) and each could get any channel on either polarity with one cable and no need for a switch.

nope. Almost all the FTA satellites use Linear. There are bandstacked LNB's out there for KU Band linear. I have some and they work great.

Do you have any recommendations on brands/model or all the all pretty much the same? Thanks!

Also thanks rglore & Pepper, I appreciate the insight. FTA seems like a cool hobby but I guess there's a lot of bad info out there.

I know you can change the output mode of the DishPro Quad by using the "Check Switch" feature on Dish ird's. My question is does anyone know how exactly "Check Switch" does it? Tone on/off, voltage change, diseqc commands, ???

The default mode of the DishPro Quad is:

port 1 - 119
port 2 - 110
port 3 - 119
port 4 - 110

and I'm trying to figure out how to put it in the following mode but without using a Dish ird:

port 1 - 110/119
port 2 - 110/119
port 3 - 110/119
port 4 - 110/119

I know this can be done, I just need to know how "Check Switch" does it.

Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this!

I think I understand to what the manual refers:

Well, yes, the modes you refer to do exist:

If your DishPro Quad LNBF is connected to a Dish Pro Multi-switch, then each port outputs a single satellite. One can use Port 1 and 2 to feed one switch, and ports 3 and 4 to feed a second, separate switch serving a second, separate location. Kind of like Ports 1 and 2 for the main house, and ports 3 and 4 for the guest house. Each switch in each location can handle two additional switches in series.

If your DishPro Quad is connected directly to a DishPro box, then each port outputs two satellites, 119 and 110, to serve a single box.

That is the purpose of the two different modes. DishPro should use Diseqc.

Funny, everyone I've ever talked to, including installers seems to think "twin" is a reference to the fact that there are two lnb's contained in a single housing. Hence a single lnb can receive 1 orbital positions while a twin can receive 2.

Anyways, as I said... Semantics.
Let me preface this reply . I have been in the satellite business for nearly ten years. Most of those with Dish. If installlers are saying this, they either need a refresher course or a new line of work.
here go to this link....
DISH Network Customer Tech Portal
If I seem a bit frustrated, it is because when I see questions like this that are asked based on the retarded ramblings of some installers, I get a bit testy.
Please know that my frustration is not directed at you . But at these "crackerjack' installers who don't know diddly poo.
Glad you came here. We will help you out. Lets us know how you make out.

From the link you provided (specifically, Tech Portal : (choose receiver model) : Equipment : DISH Pro Home Page > DP Twin): "A DISH Pro Twin LNBF looks at the 110 and 119 orbital locations, ". How is that done, in the absence of a rotor, without having 2 LNBs?

Single = 1 LNB, 1 output
Dual = 1 LNB, 2 outputs
Twin = 2 LNBs, 2 outputs, internal switch
Quad = 2 LNBs, 4 outputs, internal switch

The future of 121?

Keep my locals after move?
