Carlos Quentin is most likely out for the rest of the regular season with a fractured wrist. (Some reports call it actually broken). But, there is an undercurrent of a plot thickening according to sources....

The White Sox are saying that Carlos was HBP in Cleveland on Tuesday. However, Carlos was allegedly quite frustrated after a game against the Red Sox in the prior series and he punched a locker quite violently.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the latter report changes the entire complexion of this visit to the DL for Quentin.

The White Sox will certainly miss Quentin, who is having an MVP-caliber season. However, they do have some depth with the addition of Griffey. Junior will probably see most of his time in leftfield, Swisher can stay in center, and Konerko can again play first full-time.

Perhaps the Angels are catching them at the "right" time this weekend????

KCK,
your Angels have caught a lot of teams at the "right time" this season, and IMO, will continue to do so right through October. No question in my mind, you have the best team in 2008.

I too feel that the Angels are the best team of this year.

But, let's not automatically ssume they'll buzzsaw their way through October.

I've seen many teams that were just as great throughout the spring and summer, only to choke in the fall:

2001 Mariners, 2000 White Sox, every Oakland team from 2000-2003, 1999 Indians, and so on.

Let's be careful and not crown them prematurely.

I never guaranteed that the Angels would "buzzsaw their way through October".

Read my quote again, I stated IMO, they are the best team and will continue to be through October.

BIG difference.

Sabres,

One thing I have been EXTREMELY careful of once this season began to shape up nicley, is not to crown the Angels prematurely. I am STILL (with a magic number of 6) not even considering anything but winning the AL West.

I bought into the Scioscia Way soon after he took over as Manager and will not stray from his regimented way of planning a way to win series by series.

In a way, I don't WANT the Angels to have the best record just because I know the track records of past teams with most wins in a season.

It is Septemeber 5th and to this Angels fan, it is way to early to plan a Victory Parade!!!

BTW, KCK, your Angels took down one of my 'crowned prematurely' teams back in 2002:

Even though Oakland, the Angels, and Seattle were having a dogfight for the two playoff spots all year long, they got no respect in the media and such.

I remember EVERYONE saying how the Yankees were going to steamroll everyone and make their fifth straight Series (Keep in mind, this was when the Yankees could actually MAKE a Series)

Even in June, all you heard was 'Yankees this' and 'Yankees that.'

Luckily, the Halos sent home the premature favorites after one lousy round.

Oh, and how sweet that first round was. The euphoria of that was not matched until the infamous game 6 of the World Series that year. Even though they were IN the World Series, the afterglow of crushing the Yankees as the Angels did was intoxicating!!!!!

It's called having an opinion. I don't understand the big deal.
