I have a directv dvr r15. I recently moved the location of the box and found out I did not have enough cable to reach. I went to purchase new cable and thought that since I would be moving to HD soon, I would splurge and get 2 50' RG6 quad-shielded cables. Big mistake. After fighting with my DVR for about 3 hours, I temporarily moved everything back and connected to the old cable to make sure the new cable wasn't the problem...it worked like a charm. So, I thought it must be the new quad cables. Tried about everything..UNTIL... I hooked the cables straight from the mutliswitch to the receiver and it worked fine. My setup prior to hooking straight was: 2 new quad cables from switch to a wall plate, then two REGULAR coax cables to the receiver. Is the problem because of the two regular cables OR the wall plate...or both? Any info is GREATLY appreciated.

Also, when re-doing my setup...I noticed I am not getting a signal on Tuner 2. When I switch cables..same thing, like it is not recognizing the tuner 2.

Thanks in advance!

Are your couplers in the wall plate rated for 3GHz?

Define "regular" as it applies to the jumper cables from the wall to the receiver. Does regular mean standard RG6 or are they RG59?

As an aside, the wall plate may look nice, but it is actually a drag on your satellite signal due to a property called "insertion loss".

I would go with bad barrel connectors used in the connecting of the 2 cables. Quad vs. standard isn't going to cause the problems you saw.

Also, make sure the center conductors at all fittings (connectors) are extending just a little bit beyond the end of the fitting (1/8th inch at most). Could be that a center conductor is on the short side and the jaws within the barrel are deeper than the center conductor can reach. Too long can also cause issues.

The insertion loss at 2GHz of a 3GHz barrel is 0.6dB. At 1GHz it s 0.3dB.
