Hello everyone, I have been reading for a while, and am very close to convincing the wife to let me join the world of FTA, but I have a couple questions.

Without details, on a Sunday, how many NFL games would could I expect to see on FTA. Wild feeds or on a network?

Also, how many NHL games per night or week could I expect to find. Either wild feeds or on a network?

I also see conflicting posts on what network feeds you can receive, can someone just give me a short list on the major networks available. No details, just like 2 NBC's.

The wife is huge into home reno shows and judge shows, can I win her over with some of these ever appearing on wild feeds?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

WELCOME to the world of FTA! Programming is always exciting. Somethings are there a long time, others are gone in minutes. On a regular basis, you can expect to see FOX, ABC, RTN (Retro TV), MyNetWork/the old CW/WB stations - whatever they are called, and I have also been watching "primetime" programming on NBC. There is also a old movie station, another station that shows movies (GNF Movies) and TONS of foreign programming. And then wild feeds - never know what you get there. OH YEAH, then there is radio/audio prgramming too :)

To give you an idea, we find here in our household, that we watch FTA more than programming off of DISH. Good luck! I don't watch ports, but there seems to always be some sort of sports on.

well honestly it depends on if you have C-Band or C & KU Band. I'll try to answer both

the games are scrambled so unless you can find a CBS or Fox network that would be about it. C-Band you can get some of the HD games but need a HD receiver for those

since I have a HD receiver I got 3-4 a week extra via HD. If you don't have HD the numbers are slim. Lots of college games though :)

KU has My Network (bunch of them), 3 Fox, 2 ABC, bunch of Univision, 1 local PBS and a few National PBS
There is some NBC out there but you need a PC card for those
C-Band has all the nets + what is posted above

tons of Judge shows on G10 KU Band (which has the most english language channels)...most of the shows are on there
Judge Alex, Divorce court, Judge Mathis, Peoples Court, Judge Hatchett, Judge Maria Lopez, Eye for an Eye, Judge Joe Brown

Thanks for the answer guys. The wife will not let me get a BUD, so I am limited to a 75E Star Choice dish and the Quad LNB, which I believe is a regular KU lnb.

So Iceberg, you are saying that I will not get many NFL unless it is on the few fox channels available? I have Bell Expressvu HD, so I do get 6-7 on a Sunday. I was just wondering if I might get a couple others with a 75E.

Also with NHL, you get HD games? Is that with KU? I just remember reading in one of your posts, that you watch hockey when you find it. If the games are with KU, I will buy a HD receiver so I will get more games.

Thanks.

you might get a couple depending on what game is being shown and what you have for games. I have StarChoice so some weeks the games on the FTA channels are the same as my locals or what is on Global. Some weeks not :)

yes they are with KU. LOTS of college games and during the NHL season there have been a few games each week in HD

I don't have a pc card and I get a couple of NBC feeds that show "primetime" programming. I prefer to watch those as the only commercials they have are national ones. A lot of the times it goes to the NBC peacock "screensaver" during commercials :)

but those aren't guaranteed to be there (I know where you're talking) :)

Hello everyone, I have been reading for a while, and am very close to convincing the wife to let me join the world of FTA, but I have a couple questions.

Why is it we always have to convince our wives of these things?
Why is it so difficult for them to get on board with these hobbies?
Do they actually not understand?

:D

I was just talking about that with my girlfriend as she shook her head while I re-scanned AMC-3 to check the signal quality..........I told her it's not like I'm out drinking, doing drugs or sleeping around, it's a good clean hobby, it's legal, it's not bad for you and you know where to find me!
Speaking of my girlfriend, I better get to the bedroom........g'nite :D

Better finish scanning the sats first ;)

No, buddy, he's got the right idea, take care of the ladies first, THEN worry about the dishes. I find that lets you have MORE dishes or at least less resistance when you want to do something that, shall we say, is less than visually pleasing. :)

YMMV.

I got to agree with you on that one... just make sure that if it's an echostar blind scan that you start it up before running to the bedroom since it takes those a while to scan. After the uh deed is done, check back with your tv while doing the obligatory post-bedroom activity bathroom run.

What a fine example of multi-tasking :D

hope you're not using a Coolsat...otherwise the lady would have something else to whine about (Coolsat can scan a Dish satellite pretty quick) :)
