My question:

Do you forsee getting Cartoon Network?

Programming Centers Response:

"There is no word of any kind right now on the events or happenings of the G3 channels. As far as we are informed... When NPS leaves C-Band, those channels will not be available."

Mike Kohl said it is possible that SRL may be able to add a channel or two on if they could get HITS to get involved. If they did I doubt it would be cartoon network. Even NPS dumped it so the numbers aren't too great for it. The masters on on G-15 in PowerVu. Program them into a DVB receiver and hope for and ITC event. Or you'll have to get the recompress versions from the sausage and cheese shop. ;)

And bastardizing is exactly what they are doing, remember when service and quality where the hallmark of a good business, and if they wheren't there neither was the business for much longer?! Now it seams like most people would rather be serviced then receive quality service...if you know what I mean.

it seems like that. the digital revolution has caused us to have a wide selection of low quality content from internet radio, satellite radio, and satellite tv. its sad that a strong analog broadcast almost always sounds better on straight up fm

Digital itself isn't inherently bad, its only bad when the use of a loss based compression algorithm is used, or when packets have to be discarded.

Lossless compression methods do exist at the cost of intensive CPU load.

With analog we had snow, sparklies, noise etc. With digital compression we have macro blocking and mosquito noise. Digital can look excellent, but once the programmers found out how to use the compression attributes to make money, that ended picture quality. It's all about the buck over quality at the consumer level. HD has also reared its ugly over compressed head at the consumer level. Once you remove bits of information from the original it's lost for ever and no new hi tech so called lossless codec will help.

Wrong

Once the information is in the digital domain you can compression with out ANY loss in which case it will have NO degradation.

You are comparing two things

Loss based compression (Thats what happens when you REMOVE information.)

Lossless compression (Nothing is is lost)

Lossless compression is a compression technique that does not lose any data in the compression process.

Lossless compression "packs data" into a smaller file size by using a kind of internal shorthand to signify redundant data. If an original file is 1.5MB (megabytes), lossless compression can reduce it to about half that size, depending on the type of file being compressed.

For example:

The zip convention, used in programs like WinZip, uses lossless compression. For this reason zip software is popular for compressing program and data files. That's because when these files are decompressed, all bytes must be present to ensure their integrity. If bytes are missing from a program, it won't run.

Lossless compression has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that the compressed file will decompress to an exact duplicate of the original file, mirroring its quality. The disadvantage is that the compression ratio is not all that high, precisely because no data is lost.

I hope that clears this up for you.

Maybe I worded things wrong. What I should have said was pizza removes information then compresses so they can put more content in there. I understand the WinZip thing I use it all the time.
