I know this has been discussed somewhat here but I still don't get it. I live in the New York DMA. I get 4 regional networks, YES,MSG and MSGplus and SNY. I get those channels 24/7 with no blackouts. Yesterday SNY had the college football game between Pitt and Louisville. It's part of SNY having the Big East. I get the error message saying program not available. I know this is wrong. I call Directv and go through the usual re-set the box 2 times, nonsense. I'm very polite to the CSR and get moved to a supervisor. The supervisor has no clue and finally sluffs me off. Is there any situation within your DMA that a game gets blacked out?

If the league calls for it, it will be blacked out. It is not something the Providers do arbitrarily.

Then why would a local RSN pay rights fees for a local area and then have it blacked out?

How do you know they paid the fees for THIS game ?

It's all in the contracts, Kirk, It's all in the contracts :)

I would say it was a league issue , not a D* issue.

What is your exact zip code? And was the on-screen msg "program not available" or was it "program not available in your area" or was it any wording that included the phrase "blacked out"?

I saw it broadcast on MASN as well. Can you get that?

Maybe the game was blacked out on those providers because your market either had another local network affiliate that was carrying it (even one that was OTA only) OR maybe a regional cable only network had exclusive carriages rights. BUT regardless the black out was mandated by the league/conference based on your zip code.

I am dumbfounded when replay's are blacked out. I am a Huge Georgia fan and since I joined Directv so late no sense in forking over the $80 for 4 Saturdays. The game Saturday was on ESPN Game plan and replayed on Sport South at 10:30PM. I attempted to record it and got the black out rule.

I agree, blackouts on replays are a bit much ....

I got the definative on this. I wrote SNY about this and got this reply:

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your email. We are aware of the blackout that occurred on
DTV and it was a mistake. They are having internal technical
difficulties on their end. DTV is not required to black out these games,
nor should they have. We are in discussion with them now to resolve the
issue. They have assured us that the accidental blackout will not happen
this coming Saturday.

Best,

SNY

I have seen that nearly exact reply from another RSN and it turned out to be ass-coverage on their part. But good luck with the next game.
