Problems with TV2

I had my Dish Network installed yesterday. The technician left before I tried all the TV's out. (They were downloading information). Downstairs works fine, upstairs I have a dual tuner. TV1 works fine. For TV2, I get the information channel on channel 73 with the help guide. The TV will not change channels, however, and I think I have memorized their help guide. I have been through the user manual and done the following:

  • Reset the system
  • Checked to make sure the antenna was plugged in on the receiver
  • Re-checked the address on the remote
  • Double checked to make sure the receiver was set to Channel 73
  • Moved the receiver to ensure that it did not have interference from other equipment
  • Gone through install procedures for remote and TV2
  • Checked batteries
  • Check wiring connections that technician installed (all look appropriate)
The remote DOES control the volume of the television itself, as well as the power to the TV. It just doesn't respond to any of the satellite commands. My thinking is that there is a problem with the receiver, perhaps in the antenna, since the remote will power the TV.

Any thoughts of something simpler, or should I just call out Dish Network again?

Also, within a few hours of getting the service installed, heavy clouds came in (prior to a storm), and I lost my signal. My signal strength is reading 75. This (hopefully) doesn't seem like a normal problem except in perhaps extreme storms. Do you think the technician needs to re-aim?

Put it in SAT mode and then take the TV2 remote to the room where the box is physically located. Press the power button and observe if the blue light turns on/off on the front panel of the receiver.

If it does turn it off, try gradually increasing the distance between you and the receiver. You may need a helper to observe the box and tell you if the light turns on/off. If it keeps working until you get closer to your TV2 location, it is possible that the distance is too great for reliable operation of a UHF remote. If that's the case, then report back here and we can direct you to threads that have easy fixes for this.

If the blue light doesn't toggle on/off, then the remote and box are not configured correctly. To configure it, use the TV1 remote to go to menu 6,1,3 on TV1. While on that screen, press the RECORD button on TV2. You should observe a change in number in the box on the lower right hand side of the screen. If it changes, exit that menu and try your TV2 remote again and see if the blue light toggles on/off.

you didnt check all tv's before signing the installers paperwork and letting him leave? thats just crazy in my opinion. your signature indicates your satisfaction with the install.

well, anyway, if i were you, i would call dishnetwork and set up a trouble call and get the tech back out there to finish it.

you both were wrong on this one, him because he didnt complete the install, and you for letting him get away with it.

Hold-on Sparky!! Why put the poor guy on the verge of suicide by having him call an overseas CSR (which he is odds-on to get), waste an hour trying to fix it only to end up more frustrated, and then find out it will be a week before a tech can get back out there??

I agree with Vegas. This board can help him out quicker and with less stress.
 
Not sure what type of receiver you have, but this is the reason, im a tech and have ran into this problem every now and then, what has happen is your receiver is to far away from your tv 2 and the remote from tv2 is not picking up the sig from tv1 antenna UHF/VHF i can resolve this for you but it will be lengthy on describing on how to fix this issue.
 
Not sure what type of receiver you have, but this is the reason, im a tech and have ran into this problem every now and then, what has happen is your receiver is to far away from your tv 2 and the remote from tv2 is not picking up the sig from tv1 antenna UHF/VHF i can resolve this for you but it will be lengthy on describing on how to fix this issue.


hes going to need 2 - 1x2 spitters, and 3 short pieces of coax with fittings on all ends. rg 59 is fine.




AT RCVR: connect tv2 out with a short coax to a splitter port
Remove UHF antenna -insert a short coax cable - connect to a
spiltter port
Connect last splitter port to the cable going to the diplexor UHF
side (if a diplexor is used)


AT TV2: disconnect coax cable from wall, insert short piece of coax, and
connect it to a splitter port
Put the RF antenna from the Rcvr on another port of that splitter
Reconnect the cable to the TV to the 3rd splitter port.

Try your remote

very simple.
 
If the receiver was downloading software, and the tech left before checking it then the tech needs to be chastised.. In some cases the receiver will reset to a different remote code after it takes a download. Seen it happen many times.. So the problem here could be a remote code issue.
 
using a barrel connector instead of a splitter is better less attenuation of the signal, but you can always connect a pair of rabbit ears to the remote antenna in..

how do you make that work while shareing the wire with tv2 video?


yeah, rabbit ears work sometimes also.
