Problem DSR704

[Digital Rain]

Over the past 2 days. I've been having to unplug and restart my DSR704. I don't know if it's losing power or something else is afoot. I'm able to watch tv with no problem. seems like over night is when it goes down.

When I turn on the tv I get a grey screen and a message: Powering Up please wait....

don't know how long it stays in that mode. this makes the remote and buttons on the until useless. I then unplug it for a few mins, plug it back in and get the Powering Up message, then it moves to "A few more seconds.. please wait.
I then get the Phillips logo then Directv logo, then it searches for satellite signal and then what ever channel I was on pops back on. after that I don't know how long it stays in service.

ANyone know what could be causing this?

Unfortunately it sounds like the hard drive is dying.

How can I tell that's what it is and how to replace it?

I know there is a way to check and see if the HDD has bad sectors by putting it in a normal PC but I have never done it myself...You will find a plethera of knowledge in that forum...

thank u -- I called DTV and they told me to re-format the HD - so far so good - plus I got the 6.2 upgrade -- so hopefully that took care of it.
