Price increases causing me to "restructure"

Just out of curiosity, how do you mirror your signal? Do you use a wireless transmitter/receiver, or some kind of wired connection?

Well when we had our addition done several years ago I ran structured cabling to all of the rooms, and added RF modulators in my wiring closet. At the time I had my 4 DirecTV Tivos in there running throughout the house with IR repeaters in each room, so I will put a Joey in the wiring closet and feed it throughout the house, it will only be SD but the TVs using it aren't HD anyway. I also have some HDMI over cat5e extenders that I could use if I upgrade to HD on those TVs. If I was doing it today I would have run HDMI cables to some of the rooms but at the time they were too expensive.

My wife watches channels in the top 250 so that's not an option to drop to 200. Compared to D, E does cost less after the 1st year. In general they need to figure out something to retain customers.

I dropped a Joey from my account, removed all premiums, protection plan, and BB @Home. So now I just have a Hopper w/Sling, one Joey (swapping out with a 211 soon) and the AT200. 2nd year of my contract, $61.99 after credits and before equipment taxes. I also considered Xfinity like you did, but they didn't have some of the channels I needed. I like Dish equipment also. If things get more expensive any time soon however, I will have to make a change.

My daughter noticed when Disney XD was gone.

I had a talk with her about value and she finally agreed that it wasn't worth $10/month, especially if it came out of her allowance.

Funny, how kids will suddenly see the value of money when it is their allowance money you want to take it from.

You have to stop thinking of it as "watching CHANNELS" and start thinking of it as PROGRAMMING. Find out what specific tv shows she watches, and see if you can get them elsewhere cheaper. Amazon, Hulu, from the networks own website, etc.

Maybe you can get them cheaper, maybe not, but it doesn't hurt to check and see.

Just got off chat, and I have dropped a Joey. Interesting as the picture on the small kitchen tv from the hopper mirrored through the rf modulator is better then I had from the composite cables directly out of the Joey.

Dropped AEP down to 250 last month. Nothing missed here.

I did that last Spring and I completely agree. Saved $45 a month and I'm missing nothing. I still have movies on my DVR I haven't watched yet from when I did have the movie channels. Then when they offer the premium channels free for the weekend or as a promotion I take advantage of it and record some more movies. The AEP is a complete waste of money.

Recently I've been combining my viewing habits between Dish and the Roku. Roku has added some more channels. VEVO is like VH1 Classic and I spend hours watching old music videos on there for free. They now have a Scfi on-demand channel and the Nowhere TV app has lots of news and TV shows. If Roku had a package of basic TV channels available for a reasonable price I'd dump dish like a dirty load of laundry. :p

Look into Simple TV. ATSC/clear QAM network tuners that use external hard drives and have a Roku app to watch live or recorded tv.

For me personally, this board has been a BIG help in figuring out how to "restructure" and how to choose the right equipment to restructure. Ultimately, I've been able to save A LOT of money based on the suggestions of users on this board, and I am very grateful. I have 3 HDTV's in the house. They all now have Roku 2 XS boxes with MLB.TV so I can get my baseball games. One of those TV's (my living room TV) is connected to a Hopper w/Sling. It's my only piece of Dish equipment now. I have the Welcome Pack + Heartland Package + DVR fee for $37.99. Granted, the only HD channels I have now are the locals and the channels in Heartland, but History On Demand has HD versions of the shows on that channel, so no love lost there. Basically, I'm one step closer to completely cutting the cord, but for only $38 bucks a month I'm still getting quite a bit, plus I retain all the "old" content on my DVR and EHD's. I may completely "cut the cord" when my contract expires. .

I'm on the Welcome Pack now. Next step is boxing the Dish DVR up and sending it back to Denver for recycling. $35 for the DVR with OTA tuner and a handful of channels isn't much more than a TiVo Roamio. I still have a ViP 211 that I haven't even plugged in since my first ViP 722 died several years ago.

Not to mention the fact that there is literally a TON of free programming on Roku. Big TV providers need to be aware that they aren't the only game in town anymore, and their competition is MUCH, MUCH cheaper, if not free.

On dish america now, when my refer a friend credits run out I'll be going back to the welcome pack. I have nothing against dish but I do get much more satisfaction out of my roku. Will likely always keep at least the very basic with dish unless it gets outrageously expensive. The welcome pack for what it is can't be beat & for those of us who are not too picky it's a great combo with the roku.

Couldn't agree more!
