Price Increase on NFLST for 2010 season

Major recession? I am not feeling one; but I sure see a lot of week and mis-run industries finally getting corrected or closed up (can you say US auto industry). But regardless if you think there is one or not; simple market economics at work; if the market will bear an increase then it will. Each year people say "this increase will doom this product" and the sub numbers are still on the rise. So the market is bearing these increases fine. Until they don't, you will see increases. These companies are in it to make money, not watch people's checkbooks, that's your job alone. Recent statistics are proof that their charges are not really harming their bottom lines; YET.

All this said I don't' care for increases any more than the next person; but it really is far from greed really; just companies trying to earn money just like you & I. If we found a way to set ourselves up for life financially we sure wouldn't want people pissing on it (assuming your are running a LEGAL VENTURE) by trying to regulate it to the point where no money could be earned.

Its sure is a great thing in this country to piss and moan about those that have; unless its our own things we are trying to protect; then we don't want to hear people telling us what we can or can't do. People sure love the "Do as we say, not as we do" mentality!!

It's a good thing I like college football more than the NFL...my wife would kill me if I tried to spend that much cash on football......

i've never complained about this. until now i was ok with the price. now its getting a bit out of hand imo. will i be ok with it in 6 months? doubt it.
Thats pretty much the mentality I have had. Is it high? You bet.

Is it worth it? To me, the past few years, yes, but I did get discounts. To me without discounts? Nope, it is too high for my interest in the NFL.

I doubt I pay much more, if any, than I did last year.

The only reason I kept it this year was because I got a big discount, otherwise I would have dumped it. If I don't get something similar, then I will dump it.

Lack of competition and high exclusive contracts allows for such high rates. I wonder when rates will get too high before they start losing subs?

The NFL would probably get less if it were available on more providers, as they'd get less per provider, and it would devalue the TV contracts for the games that are on non-pay TV.

The price per weekend really isn't that bad for what I enjoy out of it. I don't mind paying less than $20-25 or so per NFL weekend to see my team and several hours of the red zone channel. Wife and I are home every Sunday and get our money's worth for the package.

As you put it, with the $314 it places it at $18.47 per weekend. I know people who blow $20 a week and have no clue where they did. Just think if you went to a bar a few times. Its paid for.

As for a deep recession. Keep In mind, I believe the cost to carry the package increases annually. D* shouldn't be expected to shoulder all that cost. I did get a discount this year but will pay the early bird price next season. I got my moneys worth without a doubt.

In the end I can see both sides when it comes to finances.

Wow, I wish you guys defending D* were my customers the way you meekly accept this gouging as "doing business".

I would be rich.

DITTO; price season tix and everything that goes with going to your one local game only 8 times each season. NFL ST is still worth it to me and all my friends that get together each SUN.

Well you can call it gouging and roll your eyes, or you can face facts and accept that $20-25 to watch several hours of football in your home is not a bad deal. If you're in a team's coverage area and have to watch some games locally then maybe it's not for you... and that's OK.

I understand the hate on price increases in general, I'm OK that a line has to be drawn in the sand and things get unaffordable even when a price increase is not significant. There's little need to be irrational however.

What I meant was the "its a recession, I cannot believe they are raising prices" comment. That was beat to death last year.

Less per provider, but more total providers, thus they could potentially get the same amount of money.

you sound like me and my wife. she enjoys this too! when you put it that way it doesn't sound that bad at all but we'll see. i guess it all depends where i am economically by the time of renewal but it doesn't look great for me,especially since i always set a limit from the beginning to what i was willing to pay for the nflst. i do love it though.

And it is half of the price of ST.

If other providers carried ST the price would definitely be lower. First, the amount Direct would have to pay the NFL for ST would be less, thus cost to subs would be less. Second, Direct uses ST as a niche grabber for subs and can set the prices higher than they would be if other providers carried ST because they cannot go anywhere else.
the last year ST was available on c-band in 1998 (i think) paid $99. could have gotten it for $79 if i had ordered it before july 1 or maybe the15th.
