Hi,

I currently have an old DirecTV dish that I installed myself. It has 2 cables that run to a multi-switch. The multi-switch is connected to 2 SD TiVO's (Sony SAT-T60,
DirecTV R10). I want to upgrade to a HD DVR but I want to keep both of the SD TiVO's. I understand that the new dish will have a multi-switch built in but only for 2 devices.

After seeing the install job they did for my brother :( I want to pre-wire for the new dish. Will they want to run 4 cables to the dish and only split 2 of them or will they run 2 cables and use a multi-switch? Or am I totally off base? All 3 DVR's are in the same equipment rack.

Thanks for the help,

Ken

If done correctly, they will run 4 cables from the dish to a 6x8 multiswitch, then run 6 cables (2 each for the DVR's) from the multiswitch to your equipment. Prewiring is not a bad idea, but be sure to leave enough slack on each end to allow for work and mistakes.

I pre wired my hole house back at the first of the year for HD Direct. I'm with you on the slop job there installer do. You will also need to change all your rg-6 cable out if it isn't 3.0 Ghz rated cable. You will be pulling off 5 SATs. and the MHz range goes from 250 to 2150 MHz on the SATs. You will need 4 cables from the dish to the muti switch and no more than a 100 ft from dish to receiver. You will need a zinwell 6x8 sw68 multi switch.

I bought both dual cable (500ft roll) and switch off E-bay. Also SD receiver will work with the new switch and each HD Dvr requires two input cables.

Hope this help you out.

P.S.

They will want you use water tight connectors, the compression type. Also got them off E-Bay.

This might be a dumb questions but ... When you say that it should be "3.0 GHz rated cable", is that the same as "Swept tested to 3GHz"?

Thanks,

Ken
