PowerVu receivers

They had one at work that was formerly connected to my Prodelin dish. When it was put out of service, and before they removed everything. I tried to reset it one day during lunch for RTN for fun. It was on G18 ku but it seemed outside the parameters of it's allowable TPs and SRs.

That Scientific Atlanta box had serial ports on it. Maybe a way to program them with some utility program? The remote was necessary to get into the menus on that one.

OK now the fun begins

Hooked it up and powered it on. Got no remote but I tried my UNiversal and hot dang it works

menu button works :)
info button does not :(

Brought up the menu and figured out how to program it. Programmed in the 12114 mux on G10 (see attached pic) and then backed out as instructions say here
ATN - How to set the Scientific Atlanta Reciever

As you can see form the pic the signal quality is good (6 out of 10) and the green lite on the box lights up (disregard polarity...it was slaved through a different box). When I back out it says "searching" but then I dont get any channels

Does it have to do with forcing it to the "non-powervu" version?? If so I'm screwed until the other one comes in as the remote I have doesnt work with the info button (as needed)

also the box shows 24 presets (0-23) and each one can have different parameters...so you could possibly get multiple TP's on it

. . . hrmmmmm..... yea, you've been practicing that trick with your Q, haven't you?
Tune and aim with another receiver, then use the Q (or this one) as slave.
If those 24 presets are workable as you suspect, you might be onto something, there! - :up

(for those who weren't reading between the lines: 24 transponders total, spread over all interesting birds)

this box doesn't have diseqc capability so I have to slave it unless I'm on a single line sat.....G10 in my setup is port 3

you'd have to select them through the setup (el chucko mentions it above)

but unless its slaved you can only have one satellite.

I'd like to use it for C-Band (did have that setup with same issue...signal locks but no channels)

this one I paid 10 bucks for so its no loss if it doesnt work. :)

If I can get into that dang info button to work I'd be happier. Set the remote up for a SA cable box and it worked so that was good.

Setup seriously isnt that bad. The oddball things
-setup is in Ghz so 12114 is 12.11400 as noted above (you keep hitting 0 until the decimal point is in the right spot
-have to set FEC

but other than that, setup is easy. Heck if you can program a Quali, this is kinda in the same boat of "cumbersome" programming :D

but hopefully someone knows why the box doesn't scan in a signal even though its locked on one

Hope you could make better picture for future tests. ;)

For now I have one question - is there Network ID should be set ? What about PIDs for PMT/PAT/etc ?

I've never worked with a powervu box before, so I don't know for sure, but it appears the "FIND" being off or your network ID may be wrong settings.

My Digicipher DVB receiver won't pick up any DVB channels if I have some pieces of info wrong (such as program number) so that may be your issue - nothing will display right until you have all the proper settings for the desired signal correct.

there is a manual pid option but I have to turn off the powervu option(which I cant do until I can get a remote to make the "info" button work on)

WOO HOO!!!

got it to work...did some reading and here is what I figured out.

To set up the "presets" (ie: transponder) is in a different menu (as shown below)

there is an option for "use nid" and the default is set to YES

Turn it to NO and it works just Jim Dandy :) Keep it at yes and you dont get anything

so I set the dish to G10 and brought that up on the Coolsat 8000. Turned off the LNB power (switch on back) and programmed as shown in the pic I posted previously. Saved it and it stored 2 channels and god dang THEY WERE THERE!!!

Programmed in G10 (couple more TP)'s and made sure that "use nid" is set to NO and then it works just fine

I can confirm it DOES NOT do HD.....just a black screen

havent tried AC-3 or 4:2:2 but I'll work on it ;)

so as long as you have a remote to type in the numbers it works just fine

honestly programming it aint hard once you get it set up

go into the options to select the preset (transponder) and back out
then go into the programming setup and program in freq, pol, symbol rate and FEC. Most boxes FEC its automatic but this one you have to program it in

hit save (actually back out and it saves) and voila..TV

once its set up to switch TP's its options/presets/change to preset 2,3,4 etc then back out. Its saves and brings up the channels

now to try 4:2:2 and AC-3
