PowerTech DG380 not working on 1.2m dish

The base weights 8 pounds, I haven't measured how heavy is the dish but I think is 30 pounds.

I've never messed with a PC-based receiver, but I've heard all the experienced users say don't try to move your dish with a card.....period.

Also, if you are swinging 38 pounds (base + dish = 38 pounds?) you are over the advertised maximum weight for that motor.

  • Metal Mounts & Gears Box Inside
  • Automatic Zero Backlash (Slack) Adjustment
  • For up to 120 cm Steel dish (Max 31lbs).
  • Heavy duty construction & precise technology..........

What kind of 1m dish? I had a problem with a Fortec dish where the motor had a problem moving it ....

Winegard DS-3101. STAB HH-120 doesn't have problem moving it in exactly the same setting, but it develped some slack, and I wanted to replace it.

Weight is one thing. But what about the balance?
If you make the dish too top heavy or bottom heavy on the motor, it will work too hard and bog down.
I agree with Radar, Turbo, and Phlat above, regarding dish weight, and power available from Pci cards.
However, once I saw the dish, I came to the conclusion Harry brought up.

The picture you linked to shows a mount that won't hook to the DG380 motor without major modifications.
Please show us a picture of how you have the dish attached. -
I'm suspicious that the dish exerts too much leverage on the motor shaft.
If that's the problem, then once it's fixed, you -might- be fine. :)

- I'll take pictures this weekend, to show you what I did to install it.

- I'll also will use a balance to see what's the real weight of this dish + dish holder.
