Where my house is located, I only have a line of sight to the 61.5 satellite. I cannot get a clear view of 72.5, 77, or any of the western birds. When I first set up my account with customer service, I was assured this would not be a problem since all of the channels I'll be getting for the Turbo HD Bronze package and my locals are broadcast from 61.5.
Fast forward to the installation and the installer tells me that setting up a system using only 61.5 is impossible. He said that even though the customer service rep was correct that programming would be coming almost exclusively from 61.5, I would still need both 72.5 and 77 for the system to work. He couldn't tell me why this was, only that he wasn't allowed to set it up that way and even if he could, the receiver wouldn't be able to be activated without a signal from all 3 locations.
That doesn't make much sense to me, but then again, I'm more inclined to trust the installer who does this for a living then the customer service rep who will say anything to make a sale. I'm waiting on a call from the field manager now but figured I'd elicit some opinions so I have some idea about what my options are.
