Portland is about to review applications for "fiber huts" to be positioned at seven locations around the city, indications the company's not-so-secret plan to be one of several new Google Fiber cities is set to be unveiled. Regional executives claim they were told flat out that Portland would be the next Google Fiber city back in June, though Google has announced San Antonio since then. Still, Portland should be announced before too long if Google applications to the city (noted by the Oregonian) are any indication. Each twelve by thirty foot hut can serve gigabit fiber to roughly 40,000 homes each.
