I am really not wanting to pay the extra pole mount charge that i have been reading about on here, although i was told by direct that i wouldnt have to pay this but you know how that goes...

here's my question.

There is a pole outside that has a wildblue dish on it that is not in use. I can take that dish down, i have to tools. my question is it seems to be a little thicker in diameter than the poles that have dish network dishes on them outside. is it possible to use that wildblue pole for a polemount on a direct tv dish? im hoping if i have an available pole that they will not charge me any extra for a pole mount install.

If the pole is 2" OD and has a clear view to the SW, you'll be fine.
Most of the poles used earlier than the last few years were 1 5/8th instead, D* went to a heavier pole since the bigger dishes started coming out.

thanks for the reply. my only fear is that it may be closer to the 2 3/8 inch. we will find out i guess this afternoon when the installer is supposed to be here. i sure hope itll work bc i definitley can't afford to pay for a pole mount right now....if i have to pay ill for sure have to cancel install today :/

Can you go out and measure it ?

Did the installer tell you there would be a charge for a pole mount ?
Many times if a roof mount is not available they will do a pole mount for you.

Personally, I would talk to the guy, walk thru the installation so you know what he's doing and he knows what your expecting.

Then I would ask him if he would do a pole mount for you instead of a roof mount, just tellhim you would rather in NOT be on the roof.

If he's willing, see how much it will be, it might be free , it might not be.
If you don't feel it's a reasonable price, tell him right up front when your doing your expectation walk thru.

Do you have Line Of Sight issues at all ?

I have to have it on a pole mount bc the landlord refuses to have it on our apt. When I talked to DirectTV they said there wouldn't be a charge for a pole mount if the landlord says this is what it has to be on. But I know that the installer may disagree with that. So I'm just gonna be very clear with him that it has to be on a pole mount and hope that it works.

I dont have anything to measure the pole mount with, so I have no idea. I just know it looks significantly bigger than the dish network poles out there. I researched the average size pole needed for wild blue and it says 2inch. so im crossing my finger that i have the right size!

As for LOS, I'm not sure. I know behind our apt building there are several trees and another building, so that very well could be a possibility. there really isnt a clear view of the sky.

i went online and found a printable ruler with inches on it, and measured the pole. it is right at 2inches. so i should be okay hopefully!

jimbo thanks for the info! the pole did indeed measure at 2 inches od, and the direct tv guys installed it on there with no problem and no charge!
