Let me start out by saying right off the bat that I am satellite illiterate. Up until yesterday, the only thing I know about it was how to use the remote. I have been researching this for a couple of hours now, and am still quite confused This site has been the most helpful, but I still haven't had that aha moment. So I thought I would post here to explain, as best I can, my situation.
I came home from work yesterday, and satellite was down. Acquiring satellite signal... I have had this system for a year and a half without a single problem. I went out and inspected the dish. It is mounted on a metal pole in my back yard - so I don't have to get up on the roof or anything. I walked back there, and it appeared to be pointed at a much lower angle then I had noticed it before. I had never really paid a lot of attention to it, but from mowing around it I had a relatively good idea of the general angle it should be pointing, and it was definitely lower.
Upon further inspection of my back yard, I noticed that some large limbs had been removed from a big tree in my back yard. The electric company had been by trimming limbs (they had informed me before hand - so I was expecting them). Anyhow, one of the limbs was near the dish, and that limb was now gone. Putting two and two together, I deduced that, while removing the limb, they had hit the dish and moved it down, There was no apparent damage - no dents or loose stuff - but I am pretty sure that is what happened.
So now I am in the process of trying to re-point the dish. I can go the the on-screen menu and, after entering my zip code, obtain the Azimuth and Elevation. The Azimuth, I believe, was not changed - the post did not appear to have been moved - and I was not able to "twist" it on the post - it was still firmly attached. But the elevation and skew - I could easily adjust them without loosening the bolts, just by firmly holding the dish and lifting or rotating it. I figured I would just re-point it, tighten everything up, and be back in business. Unfortunately, it has not been that simple for me.
Here is the bottom line question. When I go to the "Point Satelite" menu, I to in and enter the following:
zip code: 65211
dish system: 300
Tuner Input: 2
Transponder 8
Satellite 119
It shows me:
Azimuth: 215
Elevation: 37
Skew: N/A
I then keep everything the same, except select satellite 110, and it shows me:
Azimuth: 204
Elevation: 41
Skew: N/A
So here is my question - Do I point it to 110, or 119? Do I just select the one that gives me the best signal? What about the other options I have - 61.5, 105, and 148? And what about the skew. I have read that on the 300, skew is not used - so it can be set to anything. But will it effect anything?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think I am close, but I just don't understand enough about what I am doing.
