the digital RPTVs have pretty decent viewing angles, about 120 degrees with only limited drop off in brightness.

Your talking of a DLP that the bulb last 3000 hours,,, a CRT RPTV with 3 lamps like mine will last years. I have a RPTV 7 years old and the bulbs are still great. Just stay away from DLP.

I don't have one, but a friend does....why stay away from DLP?

Good question. If it is because of bulb life, my 7000+ hour bulb was in a DLP. Granted it wouldn't have last 7 years... but for me (and many thousands of others), DPL rules.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) is relatively new technology, but test show it is more reliable that one would think. We are talking about thousands of rotating prisms (they call them mirrors but they are really prisms)...

Tony, where do you get this from? I've read a few sites that explain DLP and I've not seen any that say they are prisms. One site (maybe Texas Inst, I'm not sure) talked in depth about the properties of extremely thin foils and how they don't behave the same as anything we're used to in our macro world expereince. That is, they can flex "a zillion" times and not break like you'd think they would.

I've seen them. The little foil-type-thingies (technical term) are translucent and refract as well as reflect light... IOW... prisms. :)

see ya

Most DLP bulbs only last 3000 hours and cost about 300 bucks. I have a Hitachi 57T500 RPTV and have it set up in the corner of my livingroom and you can see the screen perfect from any part of the room. I had it calibrated 2 weeks ago and it looks fantastic and its over 2 years old. Just remember the size of the room makes a difference in the size of the screen you can use.
