As recommended by the good and well intentioned folks at DirecTv, to repair the picture freeze, I chose to "clean and delete" the hard drive of my July 04 unit. I was warned that it may take about four hours to accomplish. At the end of 6-1/2 hours I called DirecTv but they have no solution except to replace the unit.
I also later talked with a fellow at Phillips Technical that said the hard drive is looping in it's attempt to "clean and delete". Replace the unit I'm told.
Any solution to save an otherwise good unit from the dump? I noted that the hard drive is a typical looking "Western" brand much like that found in my PC.
Can the HD be replaced? Maybe reprogramed? Hit hard with a hammer?
I sure would like to save it. Thanks much for any help
