DirecTV dropping "Advanced Receiver Fee" for new accounts, devices now $10/month

You do not have to on satellite either. There is no TV access fee on satellite if all you have is the Genie and then you can watch everything else on the app. (unless one of the channels you watch isn't on the app which is a possibility) 😁
Did exactly that until I canceled my service. Primary receiver was an owned H20 which I rarely turned on and used the app on my TV's.

I did a fake order with 1 Box via Satellite, the 1st box is definitely not free-
with the Gemini-
Your package
Satellite
ENTERTAINMENT package
$84.99/mo.
DVR recordingⓘ
included
HD whole home DVR
included

Gemini receiver 1
$10.00/mo.

Applied at checkout

Subtotal
$94.99/mo.

with the Genie
Genie wired receiver 1
$10.00/mo.

So both fees can be avoided with the internet version and a Roku

DirecTV needs to have all the channels on that are on the Gemini Air and have them on the APP. I wonder if new customers would think if sign up and not choose the Air and go with the APP then see some of the channels they saw in their package aren't on the APP?

That is new with the the recent changes on satellite that they don't waive the TV fee on the first TV. So in that case if you don't want any TV access fees you would have to go with the streaming option using your own devices.

I still have satellite and wonder why I can't get a few channels on the app. Is the app not getting the channels from the HR44 (but it gets the recordings from it)? Does D* not have the streaming rights for those channels?

It's too bad we can't get the mini packages on satellite.

The app streams the channels via the internet. It doesn't get them from the HR44. And yes it is probably a streaming rights issue with the missing channels.

we will question them once the next bill comes out. once our free year is over we will more than likely cancel. then download a vpn to our streaming box and stream our services from the caymans!!! it's been done before and plus it will give us the sunday ticket with red zone!!! who needs this crapola as dtv has become a real joke latley.

You can find details about that and the other MyGenre packs in this thread. MySports is $69.99, if you want additional channels like Racer, RedZone, Strike Zone, Outdoor, Sportsman, Willow and Next Level there's the $12.99 MySports Extra add-on, and participating RSNs are available with the $19.99 MyHomeTeams add-on. (Currently only FanDuel, Spectrum, Marquee, CHSN, Altitude and the MLB team channels are available)

FOX is available in most markets minus the ones that are under the Mission/White Knight dispute, at last check NBC and ABC are still limited to O&O markets.

Is anyone else bothered, that this member is advocating stealing programming, just because he is expected to pay for content from his DirecTV service.

LOL who said anything about stealing programming from DTV :oops::what. that's not what was said there taking care of our bill for a year since we had nothing but issues!!! that's on them. once it's over we will stream from our other provider since the issues are not being fixed nor does anyone know how to fix em!!! and honestly who in there right mind would keep a garbage service:what but they think all of our issues will be fixed once AT%T sells and the deal goes through i doubt it.

Looks like DirecTV is dropping the $15/month advanced receiver fee for new accounts - finally retiring a fee that doesn't really make sense in a streaming world. Also gone is the two year contract for streaming via internet customers. The differentiation between "via internet" and "steam" seems to be minimized.

Satellite and Stream via Internet new customers pay $10 per device per month, with the regional sports fee as the only additional fee. Steaming with a leased Gemini Air gets a $10/month package discount for 24 months, with no contract required - a big change.

Also interesting, if you select the option for zero devices on stream by internet, DirecTV essentially moves you to the former streamtv.directv.com offer where the service is discounted for only 3 months instead of 24 months, with a 5 day free trial.

The changes also promote the Genre packs on the main directv.com page, giving new subscribers an easier path to the new offers versus having to find the streamtv.directv.com website.

This cleans up their new customer path quite a bit, simplifies things for streaming customers, and appears to be an all-around positive. The $3 increase in the device fee, one would have to have six devices before they end up paying more than the previous $15 advanced receive fee + $7 per device.
i find it interesting that a genie 1 is an extra 30.00 bucks a month in the caymans
