Paramount +

What devices?

For some reason the Android App on my Sony Z9K has major trouble with that service, the Roku Ultra is just perfect with that app and all others.
I have the Hopper Plus and Samsung smart TV about two years old are my main two devices. Not for Paramount but I also have much older Fire Stick, Roku, and a Google Cast.

I usually can open the APP but once I select a show to play it starts to load but fails to play then freezes up.
 
I have the Commercial Free with Showtime Year plan, only $129.99, which works out to almost $11 a month, since Showtime alone is $12-15 a month from Traditional Providers, a much better bargain.
But I like Star Trek and the only one that has it is Paramount now. But I can cancel it when there is nothing playing I like series wise.

They have a lot more then Star Trek on, Yellowstone stuff, Seal Team, Evil, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, new Criminal Minds: Evolution, Halo and The Offer, which is about the making of The Godfather, it was great.

All of those are in 4K and then the regular CBS and Viacom shows are in 1080P/Dolby Digital+.

Then all the Paramount Movies, new and old.

Did they renew Halo?
It was renewed a month before the first episode.

The video game series, based on the widely popular and long-running Xbox game franchise of the same name, nabbed an early season 2 renewal more than a month before its debut on March 24. Halo stars Pablo Schreiber as the iconic UNSC Spartan known as Master Chief.

 
I was able to sign up for the annual plan for 50% off and did so. Use coupon BFCM50. That coupon was from slickdeals.net if you need instructions, but it's pretty obvious. Must select ANNUAL plan, but either Essentials (blech!) or Premium will get you the 50% off.

I've got a PQ problem. When I was subscribed through Amazon, PQ was excellent. But now that I'm watching stuff directly from the Paramount+ app on my FireTV Stick, the PQ is horrible at first, though it gets modestly better over time. It still remains not great. This is on the same hardware (FireTV Stick). I'll have to check on my 4K Roku TV's, but I do not remember bad PQ there. Note that both my FIreTV Sticks are the 4K variety, but the TVs they're connected to are only HD. The PQ starts out way worse than HD and badly pixelated.

Can you think of any settings that I might have missed? I have encountered this problem on no other apps on our FireTV Sticks.

My Roku Ultra is perfect with P+ and everything else, but when I use the Google TV app on my Sony, it takes a little bit to ramp up the picture quality, on other apps also.

One wonders what the hell Paramount is thinking to build an app like that. Can you think of any other apps that do this? I can't.
 
I've recently noticed that a number of apps, including Paramount+ are taking longer to ramp up the resolution of late on my AppleTVs. I was wondering if it was something my ISP (AT&T Fiber) was doing or if it was something the new version of tvOS. I suppose it could be the apps themselves or the CDNs they use as well in an effort to cut the bandwidth costs somewhat. Anyway, resolution seems pretty stable once it reaches HD or UHD quality in most cases for me.

When you say 'ramp up' are you speaking of the time it takes to actually get to the UI after clicking on the app or the time it takes to get to a clear screen? I have noticed that it does take some time to get to the UI on Paramount+. All the rest of the apps that I use seem to work quickly.

I vote for the app itself. This presumably is why my initial resolution now starts out so abysmally low, whereas it was perfect from the start when I was subbed through Amazon Prime. That was a hard cutover on Nov 30th.

Now, via my independent sub and separate Paramount+ app, it really sucks and takes a number of minutes to improve. CGA graphics, anyone? :mad:

I use the Paramount+ standalone app and don't have any issue with immediate clear screen resolution. But like I said it takes a bit of time to get to the UI itself.

Huh? The User Interface? Oh! I had to look back to your previous post.

No, the UI on Paramount+ comes up and is full resolution fairly quickly on a FireTV 4K Stick. It's the actual program material (in this case Star Trek Prodigy) that looks like dog poop for a number of minutes.

Let's put it this way, I go to my Apple TV and then go to the Paramount+ app and click the tile. It takes an inordinate amount of time for the app to actually come up so I can select something from it to watch. Once I get to that screen everything else is perfect.

Thanks. I scrolled upward and figured it out, as you can see from my edited post above. My FireTV Stick (regular 4K version not Max) brings up the program tiles fairly rapidly. It's the video programs themselves that look like hell for an extended time. This did not happen when I was subbed through Amazon Prime even on the same hardware. Since your AppleTV doesn't exhibit this issue, I think the problem is specific to the Paramount+ app on the FireTV Stick.

I'll have to watch on one of my Roku TV's which, BTW, would never display Paramount+ either from the stand-alone app nor from within the Prime app. They work now that I've subbed to Paramount+ directly using their BF deal above.

Another amusement: I didn't get charged $50 for the year until Nov 30th, when my sub through Amazon Prime expired.
