Hi folks. I have an opportunity to purchase a Paraclipse H-H motor for roughly 57US$. Does this seem a reasonable price for an old used motor? H-H motors are very rare here in my area. What do you folks think?
Go for it or avoid it like someone with a cold? Maybe I'll take my Titanium ASC-1 controller with me to test it before buying.
I think pretty much the whole unit its made of diecast aluminium so it seems to be in good condition. At least from the pics it doesn't look all rusted to crap. The motor & gearbox are said to be in good shape. Its a chain drive unit. Are chain drives as good as worm gears for ku band accuracy? Are they only as accurate as the reed sensor/magnet combo make them? i was planning to put a ku band dish on it. Its unfortunate that the piece that slips over the pipe broke partway off. Also the piece where the elevation bolt connects to the mount pipe is missing but I think I can fairly easily replicate that part. I thought I might be able to get a piece of aluminium pipe TIG welded onto the broken piece to fix it. Maybe I could frame the sides also with some steel to strengthen the unit.
I don't have much experience with H-H motors other than those small diseq 1.2 units. Anyone used one of these Paraclipse H-H units? From some web research it seems there is a Venture actuator motor connected to a gearbox that drives the chain. I thought it would safely handle the weight of my 1.8m prodelin offset ku dish. if it was designed to move a 12 foot or larger Paraclipse aluminium mesh antenna it should handle my 6 foot fiberglass. I'm hoping the motor sensor has been upgraded to a reed switch. Also I'm hoping it has 2 limit switches built in already.
Sorry about the low res pics they are from another site.
