Well I'm about 1 month out from the end of our current contract with dish.
Has anyone had to called into Dish this past week since this Merger has been pending or gone through curious if it's business as usual or something different. The past 2 times I have re/upped our contract they have only let me do a 1-year deal. Before that it was always a 2 year deal. I'd gladly take a 2 year deal to lock in a rate. the news release about the merger was all fluff that it would be better for both companies. To me it seems like a Monopoly to drive the price up so that being said ride it out month to month and pay the increase? Our bill just went up $5.00 a month this month over last month.
anyone have the best phone # to call I have been waiting till Black Friday weekend to usually redo my contract with them. They say they have "better" deals when i call then? Who knows!
I currently have 1 hopper and 4 wired joey's last year they offered me to cut down on the # of receivers and stream on the Tv's to save money didn't seem like a savings seemed like a downgrade in the winter we can have 3 or 4 of the receivers going at one time in the summer not so much maybe 1 at a time..

interesting were on direct and they gave us a two year deal no contract since were using the same boxes!!! it will be interesting to see what happens once it runs out. we are not interested in refinancing the house to watch the idiots lantern every month!!! have you thought of switching i'm sure direct would give you a better rate.. they more than likely won't merge till 2025!!!

We Had DirecTV for over a decade and the rates went through the roof they would not give us any deals or extended contracts had the same # of receivers as well. when we built out house in 2000 we originally had Dish and then they dumped MSG network. (NY sports network) so we lost hockey programming were in Buffalo NT Yah I know the Sabres they once was good and will be once again maybe. LOL! MSG also has daily Buffalo Programming so that is a down fall. so we switched to Direct and live was good till the rates went through the roof! I think we have had dish now since maybe 2018 or 19 the programming fits our needs minus (MSG) which will now be called Gotham I have an alternative to watch that now ;) regardless were happy with the programming and the signal is much better with Dish than DirecTV ever was had great signal strength but when bad weather rolls in We would lose signal 10 minutes before the storm hits not it's right over head and we lose the signal. LOL! just looking for what people are getting/doing. I'd switch back to DirecTV if the deal was right. but have 100"s of TV shows saved on DVD for all of us in the family that would be lost :( 4 of us live here 2 kids and wife. kids and wife had more DVR stuff then I do. :(

Keep in mind that the satellite that is providing your program is not directly overhead to your home unless you live on the equator. It is in the southern sky. So, If the cloud cover is thick and south of you, you can lose signal.

i hear ya when you say the bill sky rockets once the promo's are gone!!! we have always gotten good deals from DTV surprize. right now were paying 131.99 for the premier pack and mgm plus and the hd movies pack and 2 rooms. for two years. it will be interesting to see what happens after the merger and the promo ends!!! were not willing to refinance the house to watch the idiot lantern every month LOL!!! if you came back tomorrow you would be a new customer!!! we have never had any signal issues with our dtv we had 60 mph winds and pouring rain unless it was so bad that not even we could see where were going!!!

not sure about the newer DTV equipment but the dish we had had 4 cables going into the house. the dish unit we have now has just 1 single cable. it's a much cleaner install. I got rid of a ton of extra cable running through my basement when I went back to DISH. I just have their top whatever package no premium channels but between Dish we also have HULU for 1.99 a month not sure why but that's what we pay. Netflix, HBO max, Discovery Plus and of course Prime because well the holidays are around the corner, and we get the Thursday games. so have those extra's and we also have 3 apple TV boxes but We don't pay for "apple TV" we just use it as a platform to watch the other streams. real world problems I know. LOL! But around here the winters are long and lots of TV watching

My contract was up before the increase of Sep 19th, so I renewed for 2 years to lock "today's rates" at the time. Another increase will take effect on December 13th, and that's a bigger one than the $5 increase of Sep 19th. The merger wasn't announced back then, so I feel like a fool for renewing since we won't know what will happen. Remember, however, that the merger hasn't been approved by the FCC yet, so it will take time for it to finalize completely. And then, after that, I'm sure that the 2 companies will remain "separate" until the true merger will slowly make its way.

Dish has added and is continuing to add channels to the facility that switches from satellite feed to internet feed when the satellite signal is lost from that particular channel. Recording is paused but otherwise it is a rather elegant switch from satellite to ethernet.

i'm thinking they will more than likely give you a deal since they want to retain as many subs as they can to look good in there share holders eyes. even though they will merge into one people will still flock from em. the new DTV hardware is the same as dish one coax from the dish to the swm splitter then cables ran to what ever room you wanted.

I saw an ad for Dish last night saying that if you renew to a new 2 year Dish contract you would get Netflix for free. Did you get that deal?

I'd take that deal if the price is right I can drop one of our streaming services although I would venture to say you tied to using it strictly though the receivers no other devices. my daughter watches I think Gilmore girl reruns on the an Ipad. I have it on the Apple boxes as an APP not sure if anyone has actually used it on there or not.... @NABRIL curious what you bill is if you don't mind and what you have equipment wise. I just paid my bill Sunday it was 120.65 for the equipment we have and just the top "whatever" package no frills no premium stations. curious if they offered you something and if you declined the upgrade if the price was lower. I have no desire for anthing but what we have now we make it work and the HBO/Max subscription we have is going to end this month.

i have no problems with switching providers for better deals. it don't pay to be loyal to one company anymore like in the old days!!!
WHAT?! I see thread after thread about people getting upset their $40 to $60 discount they arranged for 12 to 24 months has expired. It seems like Dish (I can't speak for Directv) is willing to cut out a good deal of the cost to keep subs.

Perhaps it's just heresay but I have read that DirecTV has charged some a $200 installation fee if they are a returning user after doing a switch several years back. Also, I've read that others on Dish are getting the same discounts as before when renewing.

going to wait it out a bit more before I even inquire. was just curious what peoples current lay of the land is when trying to renew. I'm all for doing a 2-year deal if they offer one up and a nice price. but sadly, they seem to be on the 1 year plan the last few!

Were you already getting a discounted price that you locked into?

I was paying $116 for the top 200 package with a hopper 3 and 2 Joey's.
The new price will go up by $10, I believe.

No, i wanna s not offered the Netflix deal. I'm friends with someone high up in customer service, so I think that he hooks me up. But perhaps if I had called in amd threatened to leave, I may have gotten the Netflix deal. Maybe or maybe not.

reviving this thread. contract is indeed up I did an interactive chat with someone today who said they would lock me in at a "good deal" same equipment new 2 year lock in 150.00 a month. Umm.. I have been paying 120.00 a month. doesn't sound like a deal she said I could have a 7 $ credit on my bill for the next 3 months not sure what that's all about but what's going on? do I need to call and talk to someone in account services? do I need to switch back to DirectTV?
what about a new contract with new equipment? out stuff is 5+ years old. it's a hopper 3 with sling and joey 3's 4 of them. help me make sense of actually taking my time and calling into to talk to a person and poke the bear or talk to someone from DirectTV?
