OTA Help Please

I used to have (may still have) no auto hop on Boston's CBS OTA channel 4.1. Satellite channel 4.0 auto hops but not 4.1. I switched my CBS OTA recordings to Portland, ME's channel 13.1 and get auto hop on those.

All CBS now has 7 day Auto Hop delay.

Yes, recordings are complete and no OTA signal loss that I know of. What do you mean "If an hour show does it state less than 1:00 elapse?" I will keep testing to see it straightens itself out on all three Hoppers. I will also test my fourth HWS too. It also has an OTA module, but has rabbit ears only. The other three HWSs uses the same attic power amped OTA antenna.
Ran test last nite for OTA PTAT Auto Hop. Two Hoppers OTA Auto Hop worked (FOX & ABC) and the other two Hoppers it did not work (NBC & ABC). The two Hoppers that OTA Auto Hop did not work the Satellite local recordings little red kangaroo was there. I will keep running test, maybe it takes several days after enabling PTAT for the OTA Auto Hop recordings kangaroo to start showing up.

What is the point in having the OTA feature if PTAT works with both SAT feed and OTA feed? Unless the OTA feed delivers better PQ why bother to have say "American Idol" recorded twice?

Some people just want to record one channel, and not tie up a satellite tuner. For instance(and this is not for PTAT), I record iZombie on CW on OTA, even though it is offered satellite, so I can keep the satellite tuners free. Someone may just want to record criminal minds, and get PTAT on it when available, without tying up their tuner with PTAT that night.

PTAT doesn't record the OTA channels. With PTAT, you select the networks you want to record and what nights. You don't have a myriad of options here either. You can't say "ABC - only Mon, Tues, Fri", "CBS - all week", "NBC - Wed", etc.

If you end up with two copies of American Idol, it's because you set it up to do that.

You cannot record OTA via PTAT.
Correct

I guess I thought auto hop and PTAT had to work together as one.
They're related - in order for Autohop to kick in, you do have to have PTAT enabled. Here's where it gets confusing though. You can enable PTAT for just (1) night per week and for just (1) network -- let's say Sunday and ABC for the sake of discussion. If you record Big Bang Theory (CBS, Thursday), whether from satellite or OTA, it will Autohop. Confused more now ? :D

Autohop and PTAT do work together. Authop works on the big 4 networks as long as you have PTAT enabled on one night. Autohop also appears on OTA recordings of the 4 networks. PTAT only works on the sat channels.

I don't use PTAT. But I seem to remember a thread about PTAT and OTA from a while ago. If I remember correctly, if you are recording an ota channel that is also being recorded by PTAT, only 1 tuner is used and that is why auto hop works on the ota recording.

According to the TV Activity screen two tuners are in use, OTA tuner and one of the Satellite tuners.

I record off satellite on one HWS and off OTA on our other HWS in case of signal problems on one or the other. Plus I get OTA from two different cities so I record OTA from the non-satellite station in case one is prempted or something.
