Do I get charged $100 for extra dish here ?
I currently get all the local HD stations via my VOOM receiver and OTA
antenna. Will this 811 receiver be able to continue to get them ?

AE

Dish network does not receive the locals via an OTA, but through the dish, so the interface will not be the same as what voom is, but should be seemless either way. Does not look like you will be charge $100 for the extra dish, that is only in some locations.

you shouldn't.....due to must carry
there are 5 channels on the wing...so the installer may aim it at 148 (where the must carry is) and not 61.5

Wrong. Dish offers locals via satellite, but is capable of OTA on the HD receivers.

Thanks guys. If the 811 is capable of receiving OTA then is it possible that
the picture quality receiving this way thru my antenna can be better than
the same locals I might get thru the second dish ?
I'd think the dish will probably receive higher compressed signals.
Am I correct ?

Dish uses the analog version of the locals, and does compress them. If you can get the digitals OTA in your area, they would have much better PQ.

I'm refering to the digital HD locals. Do you mean the dish cannot get these
signals for me via 811 and second dish ?

Yes, Digital Locals are via OTA only, which the box is capable of, but you will need an additional antenna.

Man this is not what I thought it is. Looks like I need to keep the
wineguard OTA antenna from VOOM + 2 new dishes from Dishnetworks
to get the full HD package including all the local HD channels.
I'm currently enjoying the local HD via the VOOM receiver and their
wineguard antenna. If I remove the VOOM dish from my roof I'll
still get 1 additional dish on my roof now. I live in a townhome
(which I own), and my HOA may not allow me to have 2 dishes +
1 antenna on the roof. Any advice ?

If your going to go through all this for the Voom channels I would make sure you have a line of site for 61.5 because it could be a while, if at all ,that they will be on 148.

You will need 2 dishes and 1 ota for everything yes. You could leave out the ota but we must all make decisions eh.

Thanks. Isn't the current VOOM dish on my roof setup for 61.5 already ?
Correct me if this is wrong.

thx
