Old Dish 500 for Sat 77?

I was just given an old Dish 500 that I want to use to pull my HD locals from the 77 sat. This dish has the legacy LNBF with SW21s at each end. Will this work with my 1000.2 or do I need to buy a DPP Dual LNBF and an "I" adapter?

I want the Little Rock HD locals...

I have the same question... to pull in the 77 sat you need the dual DPP LNFB?

Also can I run it through my current switch set-up which is a DishPro 34. I had read that the 1000.4 EA will only work when fed through a DishPro 44.

What gives?

Not true, EA sats are the same as other Dish sats. Any dish could receive 77 and you hook it up just as you would any dish. Any DP LNB will work with your DP34. There's no such thing as a dual DPP LNB (a dual LNB is a single LNB with dual outputs). The two head LNB is called a twin and has a built in DP or DPP switch or not (legacy). You will need the new G3 smart card for 77.

Thanks, the earlier post about a DP "Dual" LNFB had me confused.

However, I am pretty certain that in the thread on installing for the Eastern Arc, that any feed from the 1000.4 must go through a 44 model switch and will not work with a 34... that's why I was wondering if I was using a wing dish to catch 77 rather than the 1000.4 if I could just hook it into my 34 switch.

And the smart cards came in the mail a few weeks ago.

:)

First part is not correct (1k4 have inside DPP switch already), second - yes, DP34 is not DPP switch.
You missing a lot about legacy, DishPro and DishProPlus technology - take a look in EKB for that.

That page is at EKB: DishPro Technology

lesstilt,
Legacy LNBs can not be used with DishPro or DPP switches (the 1000.2 has an integrated DPP switch). Get a DP Dual as chainblu said, put it on the 119 side of the Dish 500 and set its skew to 90.

Legalsax,
The DP34 can be used with a DP Twin and/or separate DP LNBs. Results are mixed on using the DPP Twin and there aren't enough reports on the "triplet" dishes to say either way, not that there's much cause to try.

I assume you already have HD which should mean your DP34 has no empty satellite input. One way is to add a dish with a DP LNB and cascade through a DP21 switch, but we really need to know the rest of your setup (which dish(es) and receiver by model number(s)) you have to make a recommendation. EKB: Add a 61.5° Dish to Your System can also help with 77°.

Appreciate the replies. I got a DP dual off ebay and should hopefully get it this week. I also ordered an I adapter as I figure it will make it a little easier to aim as well as look a little better than a Y with an empty slot.

Of course, now I have to call Dish, "move" back to my home, and request they send me some smartcards. I might have this up and running by the middle of December.

ok, simple question in layman's terms. I have a dish 1000.2 with a vip 722 pointing to 110, 119 & 129 and on Turbo HD. If I get 77W on a another dish with a DP (I assume you mean Dish Pro) lnb and then connect to the LNB In port on the 1000.2 dish, will I be able to get Little Rock, AR. HD locals without in other switches or changes? I really don't understand some of the tech talk and not sure if that's all I need to do. Thanks in advance.

Assuming that you already have your smart cards switched, then that should be all you need to do.
