OK I am about to cancel Dish, what do I need to know

I have called them twice to verify that I am under no committment to them, I verified that the equipment I have (508 and 811) are mine and that I have a 301 that is theirs from my initial contract. They said that the dishes and switches are mine as well. When do I need to cancel? I am going to DTV, because I live in an O&O FOX market and they have ESPN2HD. Do I cancel when DTV comes out to install or can I call them and ask them to disconnect my service on the date of the install? Any advice would be appreciated. Should I sell my other things on eBay or would anyone here be willing to buy them. Thanks!

dish can schedule a disconnect date, so you'd have service until you want it turned off. As far as returning the equipment, you just really need the lnb and switches, the dish part itself you can trash
