ANTENNAE RAISED: Satellite companies filed suit against the state, saying the tax hadn't been applied to their chief competitors in the cable industry and violated principles of interstate commerce law. The state argued cable operators pay a franchise fee that satellite companies don't, and that there is no legal requirement that they treat satellite and cable the same.

CLEARING UP THE FUZZ: The Ohio Supreme Court agreed Wednesday to hear the satellite industry's appeal.

The sales tax on satellite services was written and passed by a Democrat Ohio House and Republican Ohio Senate, It was signed into law by a republican governor. Now lets leave the politics out and stick to the issues at hand!

The satellite tax in Florida is out of control! And the Rino in Tallahassee is raising taxes and fees as fast as Washington.

Just for the record, it was signed by Bob Taft, Ohio's previous governor, and yes, he's a Republican.

The Dems did not get my vote either.
I just posted the above story because this is the first thing that I had heard of the suit since Dish and Direct had filed it a few years ago.
I do know that when they passed the tax someone from the AG's office told them it was unconstitutional to impose a tax like that. But the good folks in state government don't let any thing like facts get in their way ever.

I live in Florida and the tax on my $70.54 month Dish bill is $7.57per month. 7.5% sales tax and local county option tax on everything, including gas, water, power, telephone, cable, and satellite. Did I miss anthing?

That's the big myth with states like Florida (no state income tax) or Montana (no state sales tax). They have to get the money from somewhere...

I recently turned down a job in Florida that came with a ten percent pay cut. Their big selling point to me was that I wouldn't have to pay state income taxes so it woudl actually be a raise (from Idaho).

Nahh, I'd say Florida has 3 months of summer also, plus 6 moths of hellish heat and humidity known as Hurricane Season.

I know, the weather did entice me but it is actually pretty cheap to live in Idaho too. I still have some regrets...

Nah, you live near the coast which lowers the humidity and provides a constant breeze. From August till November the high is 92, the low is 82 and water temperature is 87. 92 is doable and it never ever goes above 95. I have lived in other places with four seasons that had a 2 to 4 week period of temperatures in excess of 100 degrees. 100 degrees is inhuman. And if do you homework you can find a few places that never get hit by hurricanes.

92 is still too much for me. Heck, I'd rather it never get above 82, and stay closer to 72.

And yes, I do think even Cleveland is too hot much of the year. But I have done my homework. Cleveland never gets hit by hurricanes. Well, unless you count the Blizzard of '78.
