Official word on FOX Sports 1?

Some of those original series will be moving from FX to FXX or something like that which is itself a rebranding of another channel (name of which I cant remember)
Speed changes to Fox Sports 1.
Fuel TV changes to Fox Sports 2 (not sure if Dish even carries Fuel TV)
Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) changes to FXX
Fox Movie channel changes to FXM (which I think has already happened).

Fox Sports 1 Lacking DIRECTV, Dish, TWC
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (July 15, 2013) - This is an update on our earlier coverage of Fox's new sports channel, Fox Sports 1. (See earlier article below.)

Fox is scheduled to launch its new national sports channel, Fox Sports 1, on August 17 but Sports Business Journal reports that DIRECTV, Dish and Time Warner Cable have yet to agree to carry it.

SBJ notes that the three providers have more than 46 million subscribers which means that Fox would fall far short of its goal of reaching 90 million viewers at launch if it fails to lasso the trio. This would severely handicap its effort to become a serious contender to ESPN at launch.

The three holdouts also represent three of the four largest TV providers in the nation; the fourth, Comcast, which has more than 20 million subscribers, has agreed to carry Fox Sports 1.

SBJ writes that talks between Fox and DIRECTV, Dish and Time Warner Cable remain "amicable," but all three have frequently voiced concerns about the rising costs of acquiring sports programming.

Once upon a time, a high-profile channel like Fox Sports 1 could almost guarantee that it would quickly get deals with the top TV providers. But the programming war between TV providers and content companies has made it difficult for any new channel to reach a large audience at launch.

DIRECTV, for instance, bills itself as the sports leader, but has yet to add the new Pac 12 Network or CSN Houston.

The new Fox sports channel will begin airing regular season and playoff MLB games in 2014 and Fox executives say they hope to add NFL games at some point.

Note: Fox will replace the Speed network with Fox Sports 1 on August 17. Sports Business Journal writes that DIRECTV, Dish and Time Warner Cable have contracts to carry Speed as a "motor sports channel," and not a multi-sports channel. So the three providers are not under any obligation to carry Fox Sports 1 at launch.

Also, the SBJ article does not mention any other TV provider that has signed on to carry the new channel. But it has been reported that Comcast is on board.

Is Fox Sports 1 An ESPN-Killer?
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (March 6, 2013) - Fox announced yesterday that it will launch its much-anticipated 'ESPN-killer' sports channel, called Fox Sports I.

The network, which will launch August 17, will kick off in 90 million U.S. homes, Fox said, which added that it will air Major League Baseball, college football and basketball and soccer games, among other sports.

Fox will even be able to show exclusive New York Yankee games starting in 2014 thanks to News Corp.'s ownership of the Yes! channel. (News Corp. owns Fox.), according to Sports Business Journal.

The new channel will begin airing regular season and playoff MLB games in 2014 as well and Fox executives said they hope to add NFL games at some point.

The heavyweight lineup and Fox's talented stable of on-air personalities which includes everyone from Joe Buck to Erin Andrews will make Fox Sports I a serious competitor to ESPN from launch day on. The channel's studio shows will include programs hosted by Terry Bradshaw and Regis Philbin.

David Hill, a longtime Fox sports executive, yesterday told reporters that the channel was 15 years in the works

While Fox said the channel would launch in 90 million homes, the network did not say which TV providers have agreed to carry it. But the channel will replace the Speed channel, which is now in 87 million homes.

Dish carries all of those now, so does Direct I believe.

So how does a name change keep the new names away from D* and E*?? Doesn't make sense unless Fox is wanting more money on the name changes.
Looks like they are asking for 57 cents more
Its in the named content being provided by said channel. The contracts for Speed say it is a channel providing motor sports programming, not a general sports channel, so the contracts apparently have to be renegotiated.

Fox needs to just eat the cost difference until the next contract negotiation. And in that time show that it's worth more money. Otherwise it needs to go in the sports pack and raise the cost of that package. And I say that as someone who pays for the sports pack.

I agree with that as well.

All theses guys (Fox, ESPN, etc...) need to realize the Americans paying these bills are hurting financially, as many areas of our business are in a downturn right now. Im all for sports coverage, but its getting ridiculous.

You start building $500,000 homes in an area where the median income is $50,000, they may not sell.

Thinking about a bit more, since Fox is demanding more money for a re-branded channel,it would seem to me that TWC,DTV,and DISH,have all the power here. They already paid for Speed,if Fox says you can't have FOX Sports 1 without a rate hike, then they could say sorry, now pay us back for the money we already paid for Speed. .57 cents more per sub is a huge increase.Fox might want to think about their demands.

Smells of breach of contract to me and a double standard. If MVPDs were to reshuffle their programming tiers around and move channels to tiers other than what was negotiated, the providers would scream breach. But the providers can rebrand/consolidate channels all they want with no recourse, and then demand more money for them? Outrageous.

ESPN is made up of several channels that apparently must be bundled. FS is only one or two channels.
Yes, but understand that ESPN (the main channel itself) gets $5.54 per sub. Add in ESPN2, ESPN-U, ESPNNews, and ESPN Deportes, and you're looking at about $7 per sub. And if a provider was generous enough to carry ESPN 3D, it would be closer to $10 per sub at the most since ESPN was charging $2.71 for that channel.

I just checked my guide...I have the RSN pack on Dish. I do not see Fuel TV in the lineup....
My guess is in typical Charlie fashion Dish plays hardball with FOX and refuses to pick up FS1..Which means no NASCAR except for the races themselves. No All Star race...
Good stuff. Looking forward to getting less programming.

All pay tv providers use the same disclaimer. Rates and programming subject to change without notice.

It gets a bit worse. The value of FSC dropped substantially with the loss of Serie A and then the EPL. So they want more money for a combination of channels that had less value.

Noticed this little quip on one of the racing news sites I frequent this morning (Jayski.com). Apparently 80 cents is only the starting point.

Fox asking for increased fees for Fox Sports 1: Sports Business Daily reported yesterday that FOX Networks will ask cable and satellite providers to pay 80 cents per month per subscriber for the newly rebranded Fox Sports 1, with carriage fees climbing to $1.50 monthly over the life of multi-year contracts. Affiliates currently pay approximately 23 cents per month for SPEED. FOX has already inked a new deal with Comcast Cable, but major carriers Time Warner Cable, DirecTV and Dish Network have reportedly balked at the price increase. Fox Sports 1 - formerly known as SPEED - will televise college football and basketball, NASCAR racing, UFC mixed martial arts events and sports news programs.(Godfather Motorsports)(7-17-2013)
