Official - I have a Hopper 3 Thread!

Ordered via chat on Sunday.

Tech arrived at 11:25am and was done by 1:30pm. By far, the longest time was waiting for the download. Perhaps work a way for techs to be able to have the latest software on a flash drive?

Upgraded from HWS, SuperJoey and Joey 1.0 to Hopper 3 and two Joey 2.0's.

LOVE the speed of the new Hopper 3. The Joey 2.0 is so much more enjoyable than the Joey 1.0. Finding a show to watch before was a chore of pressing, waiting, pressing, waiting... Having tuners available wasn't really an issue before, but now it definitely won't be! I really like the new 52.0 remotes.

Only "complaint" is that the tech thought these were the voice remotes, and didn't know what my OTA module was. Otherwise he was very knowledgeable and affable. Very professional. Sold me a surge protector since mine was old and small and I was meaning to get a new one. Even gave me a pamphlet of all the services and products they sell. I believe he was a Dish employee, not a 3rd party.

He did NOT take the old remotes. Actually told me to pull the batteries and save them if they're good, and throw the old remotes away.

It's not possible to load software from a flash drive, it comes from the satellite only. What some have done is hook up the receiver at the shop and download the software their in order to save time in the customer's house.

So is Dish recommending their receivers be plugged into surge protectors now? I used to always plug my old receivers into surge protectors. Then when Dish receivers started using power line communications to send info to other receivers in the residence, and surge supressors blocked that communication, Dish's official stance was do not plug their receivers into surge supressors, and that they were not needed. All of my entertainment equipment currently plugs into a surge supressor except the hopper, which plugs directly into the wall outlet. Now that I believe Dish no longer uses home power lines to communicate between receivers, are they officially tellling us they should now be plugged into a surge supressor again?

Surge protect away! Should be no reason not to use one anymore other than I have heard of some rare occurrences where a surge protector caused some receiver issues.

My install went fairly easily other than a few minor glitches with the downloading. One ended up being a bad cable end the tech had installed, and there was a lot of texting back and forth till he found the issue. Downloading did take awhile, and the POD channels (501) did not pop in till the next morning, but otherwise no issue. He had no problem leaving the old remotes, and I am glad that I had read some of these threads before he showed up.
Thanks again to the knowledge base here. Prior to this thread I had no idea that:
1,The old remotes worked on the new hopper, and you can have more than one remote per hopper/Joey.
2.You could restore timers and the like from the remote, wouldn't have thought to look.
I've been with Dish since 2008, and a member of this forum since then. It has been unerringly the best source of information for all these years.
THANKS!

The reason they didn't recommend them before was because DISH was selling these phoneline adapters where you could plug in a phone line and it would send the phone line through the electrical and the older receivers could use the phone line over the electrical line. If you used a surge protector many of them would not allow the phoneline signal to go through.

25,000 is a small town? Mine is 4,000. Now that's small.
25,000 is big to me. I live in an unincorporated part of the county, nearest "town" is about 900 and has a bank, two gas stations, a cafe, and a Dollar General. The "big towns" about 10 miles north and south have about 4,500.

Sounds like my part of the country.

UPDATE: It now shows as purchased on my account. I ended up getting a call from a supervisor apologizing for the miscommunication on their end and how long I had to be on the phone. That was nice, never had that happen before with a CSR call with any company. All is well in the world now, crisis averted ;)
Seems they are having trouble with us with purchased receivers, they were playing 21 questions with me, where did it come from, did you purchase it or did we send it to you, did the retailer install a new dish. Had to repeat 10 times that everything was fine and i was just at the activation screen and needed it authorized. At some point the rep was having trouble removing my hws from my account in order to authorize the h3.

I just told them I wanted to activate some receivers I bought and that was it. Easy.

Okay, had mine installed on Monday and icons on shows are showing channels instead of shows and search still does not work. How much longer should I wait before I say its an issue?

Now I have H3, I was left with 2 x wireless access point from prior setup. One is now connected to new H3. Anything I can do with the second one? Any purpose for it?

Have you tried unplugging and then waiting 30 seconds to a minute, then plugging back in? Some folks report that this works. Mine took about 72 hours to start populating pics.

Yes - sorry meant PTAT delete cannot be restored...
Vivek: I want to jump in here on this as I see it is your most recent post and tell you that I am amazed by your help and support to a PM I sent you and the support you have given other members of this forum. As a DISH customer since 1999 you are even better than the old days when I could get upper level assistance from what was called the "Executive Office" when I emailed Charlie. You are truly the best public face of your company! Thanks again!
