Notre Dame to leave the Big East for the ACC? Can football follow?

It's just not going to happen. NBC will pony up $20-25 million to keep ND football on NBC and NBCSN and then ND will get its part of the acc money for Olympic sports. They are not going to get anywhere near that kind of money and national exposure by going full in with the ACC.

When the contract is up 2015 - expect to see movement after that - mark my word, you may see extension but ND will go ACC for football eventually.

Like I said, it's not going to happen. Wish all you want. ND does what is best for ND and going full time in football to the ACC is not what is going to be best for ND. The ACC is still the 5th conference out there and NBC needs inventory for their networks, and ND is the only thing that will bring ratings for them.

ND got what they wanted. They can fill their schedule, keep their traditional rivalries and get access to the acc bowls if ND can't qualify for the national playoff. So you can mark my words, after 2015 it will still be the same with the ACC and NBC bending over for the golden domers.

I kinda hope we go ACC in future in football. I am tired of hearing how we play mediocre teams and beat them, and get no credit, when a USC or Stanford plays a North Texas like and is automatically greatness. Iritates me.

As a ND fan living in Michigan I would much rather see them in the Big Ten if they were ever to join a conference for football. I prefer they remain independent though. I don't want to see them lose their long time rivalries from multiple conferences.

Apparently it wasn't a unanimous vote to raise the exit fee. FSU, Clemson and VT apparently voted against it

edit: Orlando Sentinel reports it was FSU and Maryland voting against the exit fee increase.

Yeah VT isn't going anywhere - they rule the ACC which is getting to become a very powerful conference regardless of what haters say. FSU is against it cause I believe they have a hard on for the SEC being where they are and Maryland I believe may be getting yanks from the Big East.

Poor Maryland,if all they can muster is pull from Big East they are in bad shape.

Wake up...... your dreaming and take off your rose colored glasses too. VT doesn't rule anything, even in their own state. They may be top dog on the field but in terms of power to get anything done, they are low man on the totem pole. They have very little say in the goings on of the acc and they do whatever the boys on Tobacco Rd says to do.

FSU fans may want in the sec but everyone that matters knows the sec is not going to expand in Florida. The sec wants OU and Texas but knows that isn't going to happen. There are only 3 places the SEC is going to go. VA, MD and NC. Maryland wants the door left open for an sec/big 10 invite, should the dominos start tipping again.

The Big East is an irrelevant conference when it comes to the big money of college football. Why you even mention that is crazy.

lolz wut? As I said VT isn't going anywhere they rule the ACC - and when I say this I'm talking about football which is where the money is. But again VT isn't going to leave the ACC unless a super conf is created down the road.

Is that not what we've been discussing?

On field performance is not what this is all about. It's about viewers and new tv markets, so bringing on field performance into the discussion is irrelevant.

*cough*Clempson*cough* Unfortunately "ruling" a weak conference means nothing, just ask Boise St. (who at least can manage to beat OOC BCS teams).

As I said - ACC is not weak, they have some really good teams 3 of which are in the top 12. You can say that over and over till you are blue in the face but its true no matter if you are a GT/ACC fan or not. GT has a very good defense - I expect them to hold UVA down good but UVA has been weird against GT so who knows which is just how it is in the ACC - one min you're hot the next you're not.

GT has very good defenses?!?!?!?!?!! hahahahahahahaha, even CPJ admits the defense has been awful. No one in the State of Georgia would even think we have a good defense.

And yes I'm a tech fan, as many here know I'm a GT grad, BS-EE c/o'93. Husky and I had many conversation about the ACC back when Miami & VT announced their jump. Back then I defended the ACC. Unfortunately in recent years we've sucked, and sorry but I won't defend (or excuse) crappiness.

Yep GT has a good defense...got to see it first hand the other Monday night front row seats remember. They were very good against the run and decent against the pass. I think people in the State of Georgia need to change water supplies and give credit where credit is due.

Considering how bad Tech's defense has been against everyone the last few years, and that they were missing starters in the game tells me more about the Hokie's offense. Just because someone ULM beat Arkansas doesn't mean their a great team, no it meant the Razorbacks weren't as good as advertised (not to mention were lacking a QB).

Got to agree with Derwin, I was not impressed at all with GT defense either. Of course I only viewed it at home, in HD, with multiple camera angles and replays :)

They won't join football in ACC until the money is about the same as what they get now.

Yeah hard to see it there.... but meh whatever I know VT had a 50/50 offense and still do as of now but GT's defense was pretty damn good at the line.
