hey everyone i have a question:

After my paps moved again he left his direct tv receivers, then i got my own account and they came and installed new receivers. Now I need one more,I called the company and told me the prices and stuff, and i remembered that i still have the receivers my pops lefts. My question is, should call and ask them to install them for me to save money? would they even allow that to happen?

Welcome to the site, look around , stay a while !

Depends on what rec'r it is, you may not want it anymore... If it's newer unit that handles the MPEG4 format, then Yes, go ahead and do it. If you can do the installation, just call D* and tell them your adding a rec'r and they will ask for the rec'r number and probably send you a new access card and you'll be good, opr maybe be able to activate the card you have, but thats only if it's a rec'r worth keeping, if it doesn't do MPEG4 you won't get any HD (if it's a HD rec'r) or anything from the 99 or 103 sat's.

It will cost you $5/mo. for the additional receiver on the account and $20 for a new access card in your name. How old is the receiver do you have the accessories needed to use and connect it?

If you need additional receivers, talk it out with DIRECTV.

If you're signing up for the first time, don't do it with old receivers; they'll lease you new ones for the same monthly dollar amount.

the situation is that my dad left it when he was suppose to return it but it was just there in the closet, so I dont want to get in trouble with the company (i talked to them and they will charge me like (60+shipping+installation, so it would save me money to just pay for the installation). and its an HD reciever, just like the other 3 i already have. and I've been with direct tv for a while

If that receiver still has a balance on your Dad's account then DirecTV will not activate it. And your Dad's account could be charged for not returning a leased receiver.

so dont call and ask to install that one right? I cant say it bought it or something?

You have 2 options, return it to D* and be a good customer OR put it in the trash because it can't be reactivated.

It is entirely possible that your old man will develop a new interest in returning the receiver if he gets billed $240 for failure to return it.

According to the Equipment Lease Addendum, the receivers are non-transferable.

If his dad had the receivers for quite a while, its possible they're owned and not leased.

Call directv with the receivers in front of you and ask them if they're owned and can be reactivated or leased and need to be returned. They'll ask for several numbers off the stickers on the box or the access cards.
