I wonder if this means that PIP will be going away? I hope not.At other forums they think the next server wont output to 4k using HDMI and it wont even have an HDMI output at all. It would be what I think they call a headless Server/Gateway. The clients would be the only ones outputting to 4k over HDMI.
But they Could quit charging for the 61 in these instances. But it doesnt... we can't change the way the receivers work..

I think its a dumb move also. They should just make something like the Hopper 3. That one outputs to 4k over HDMI right? I think maybe what the others are saying is it could be like AT&T's UVerseTV modem and they would just add the SatelliteTV tuners and a SATA hard drive to that. Or just add the SATA hard drive to it and a coax input because I think they were also saying that they could move the tuners to the LNB.Well that would be a dumb move.
With no HDMI connection, how do they expect to connect to TV's.
Unless ALL 4K TV's have a different type of connection.
However that would limit moving a $K box to another TV, weather they have 4K or not, the box should be compatible with Non 4K sets.

Residential Gateway. The latest one UVerseTV has is this one. It also has a coax input. I think they don't use the coax anymore. I think UVerseTV uses all CAT 5/6 now. I was thinking AT&T could use the coax input for SatelliteTV. It looks like it also may have enough room for a SATA hard drive.whats an rg?

This is what I was wondering also ....can ip based work with just a sat and no internet connection?
This is what I was wondering also ....
Not everyone has Internet and even less have the speed for streaming if it's a continuous thing.
Directv is great right now, if you just want TV, you don't need Internet or a cable feed to.the house.
Sorry basically it's a home network .... if I'm reading this right.

Which is fine except 95% of your homes are set up with coax, you'd have to change this out and start from scratch, much like most of U Verse does now.
I saw that one. That would be cool if DTV would use that. I noticed it has HDMI in and out. I wonder how that works with a PC or Game Console?
