No Signal From 30.0°W

Is 30.0°W dead? There is no signal coming from that Satellite for me the past 4hrs+.

This is the second time in less than a week that I have lost all Quality Signal from Hispasat at 30.0°W. Right now quality on both H & V polarities are absolute ZERO! I have checked the cable lines coming into the house (before any switches), and it gives me "0" quality on both outputs. The last time I lost quality signals like this it was raining and damp, but the LNB is covered, and well protected from the elements.

Weird. I'm not getting anything in Pennsylvania, but I have a decent signal on 45W and a moderate signal on a few transponders on 15W, so I don't think it's weather-related. I always thought I had the tip of a tree branch near 30W, so maybe it moved when wet. I'll have to see if 30W comes back tomorrow. Hopefully the dish hasn't moved again after I just realigned it last weekend, but if that had happened, I doubt I'd have anything on the two other eastern satellites.

In my case, I have a clear line of sight, and trees don't grow 12+ more inches over night.

Here's a thought. I used USALS for all my ku satellites. ONe of the last I tried for was the French channels on 34.5w. I tuned it in and was getting 30 - 40% quality and terrible pixelation. For grins, I went to the dish and hooked up my meter. Playing with the east - west position on the motor I got signalquality to leap to over 80. I went back in on my Az Box and changed the positioning from USALS to DiSEqC1.2. I found bumping the position manaully a bit also gave me a little more quality.

So one experiment to try is to see if your USALS position is off. It does not take much.

I've still got nothing on 30. No problem on 45 or the data transponders on 37.6, and only slightly diminished signal on 15, so I can't imagine it being a positioning error. Must be a tree, but I can't imagine it moving that much and then not moving again when the weather changed.

Since nearly everyone is not having the same issue as me and Jim S., it means is either my LNB is bad or the Dish shifted. I'll look into the this the first chance i get.

Have some questions about this 30.0W satellite.

#1. What is the good thing about it, that is worthy of looking it up.

#2. For those members who are able to view this satellite, are you using a stationary or motorized dish.

#3. What would be a good transponder to seek for. Is this satellite mostly K/u or C band.

Found the listing on Lyngsat for this Satellite. It seems to be all K/u band. Question #2 still stand

#1: The Cuban channels sometimes run American movies and TV series with the original English soundtrack, and hard-coded Spanish subtitles.

#2: I usually get it fine on a motorized dish, but if you're too far west, it'll be easier to use a stationary dish.

6° elevation here. All is, and has been, well. #3- 11884 V 27500, actually any of them with that SR are easy to find it. #2- Stationary(fixed) 1.2m dish[overkill]. #1- evening entertainment, check Conky's 'What's on 30w' in the WUT.

The Orasat OS-DL2 dual linear LNB is dead, so it seems. When I took it down and cracked open the case, I noticed water in the casing, and some drops inside the feed horn! The funny thing is that I mounted this lnb/dish upside just for fun and to account for future tree growth in my line of sight. In the end, I replaced the bad lnb with a spare of the same model and all signals are back on. I will have to seal the case of the replaced lnb first chance I get tomorrow.

I just tried to locate this satellite a little while ago, put in all the required information, and am trying to use USALS. When I command the receiver to go to the 30.0W position, it states that it is "out of range".

That, that means that the dish motor position or travel range has to be set/reset in order for the motor to reach to the 30.0W spot. I do not remember seing this statement before with this motor/dish mover.

Probably the drowned LNB could be saved, if you let it dry out in a warm place for 1-2 days. I tried to convert circular LNB to linear by removing the plastic insert, and immersed its front cap into a mug with hot water for a few seconds. The cap came out easily, but some water got inside. After removal of the insert, the LNB did not work. But the next day, after it dried out, it worked fine. Hopefully, yours could be cured, too. Cheers, polgyver

Just because it says that it's out of range for USALS doesn't necessarily mean that it's out of range for the motor. I can go to 15W with DiSEqC 1.2, but not USALS. I don't know why USALS has this limitation.

30W is out of USALS range for us here in Metro New Orleans, but the motor can still reach it. You have to use DiSEqC 1.2 to manually move the motor there and save the position. That is one reason why I intend to erect a fixed dish for 30W. Other than the fact that it takes FOREVER for the motor to move almost all the way East and back, I dislike using DiSEqC 1.2.
