Is there a Setup To Quickly Restore No Pic & Sound from Wakeup
I have been setting my Picture settings to 1080 so I can get the Max resolution on HD Channels. The problem is that at times - and NOT ALL the time, when I power up my AZbox Premium Plus from Sleep Mode many times I have No Picture and NO Sound, and I am left fumbling with the Resolution Setting on the Remote until I think I can find NTSC or whatever I did to finally get my Plcture back? Yesterday I went thru: Pal, Component, 720 etc, etc, for about 6 to 7 minutes until the Picture and sound finally came back. This is especially annoying and worrysome as it makes one think that the Box has completely failed!

Not sure why this was designed into the AZbox, as with my Bell Rx there is no problem with it sorting between channels that are HD and and non HD. Is there a way or Procedure to QUICKLY RESTORE the Picture and Sound when AZbox wakes up to a blank screen?

The Elites used to do that with older Firmware, which Firmware are you running?
Also, there is a setting in the Settings Menu, you can pick which mode to startup in, try selecting "TV" if it's not already set.

This may be that when your in your menu screen changing the picture settings you are inadvertently changing the resolution to pal format.
if this is so then these directions will get you back to NTSC.
-----------------------------------------------------
After a reboot the receiver defaults to pal format
To changed the setting in the Menu from PAL, back to NTSC

You need to do the following steps.

1) Reboot the receiver by the switch on the back of the unit.

After it powers up and you see the menu rolling, follow these steps:

2) Down Arrow 6 Times

3) Hit the OK button

4) Right Arrow 1 Time

5) Down Arrow 1 Time

6) Right Arrow 1 Time

You will now have changed the setting in the Menu from PAL, back to NTSC.

7) The receiver will ask you if you want to save your change and say YES.

Thanks Lak 7 using the software that came from Rick's with the AZBox last week - its listed as: 0.9.5020. Think that is the Latest Version. Yes it does start in TV mode.

Stargaze, thanks a lot for the detailed info. I will try it next time I lose the Picture again. The strange thing is that sometimes BOTH Picture & Sound are gone, and other times I can hear the Audio BUT there is NO Picture. Also when BOTH Pic & Sound are gone & I do a reboot the sound will come back but NOT the Picture, until I was fumbling with the Resolution Settings to try & get it back. I'll try out your procedure.

Jsattv,

I must agree with Lak7 on this particular issue...

I don't think it has anything to do with your resolution settings in this case as that is merely the format of the OUTPUT signal to your TV. Once set, that shouldn't change unless you reformat the system entirely.

I think that it is more akin to the tuner waking up to a HD signal and not being able to process or lock it properly right away. This sounds more like a hardware problem with the tuner or a programming problem with the firmware. It also could be a signal level problem. If your dish alignment is not optimum, that may cause the tuner not to lock on immediately. It knows there is a signal there, so it doesn't display "NO SIGNAL", but it doesn't quite know what to do with it.

I would try to update your firmware first, to try and hopefully rule that out. Then I would investigate your dish alignment for the HD signals. Optimize that and see if the trouble is reduced.

The TP frequency, symbol rate, FEC and whether you are using HD flags may be critical for accurately locking on HD signals. Make sure that you check these all out with scrutiny.

The settings are under the display screen.
The list is as follows:
*Video output: mine is set to HDMI
*Video format : Mine is set to NTSC
*Video Resolution : mine is set to 1080p
*Screen Format:
*Display Format:
*Display Format Movie:
*Scart Option:
*RF Channel # : mine is set to 21 I have never changed it.
*RF Audio Type:
*Menu Transparency:

From the OP I take it they are going in and changing some of the settings on line 3 then exiting. At times, not every-time, they may be hitting the incorrect top 2 options and not realizing it. Then when the receiver boots up it either is not recognizing the Output or the Format for the video.

I don't see a need to constantly change setting here once you are set up for your TV/monitor the first time.
If the TV can handle 1080p keep the setting there.
If your in this screen take your time so that you do not inadvertently make a change to a setting you don't want to change. It is easy to hit the wrong thing when using the remote.
The buttons are close together for those who have large hands.

On my Premium Plus box under Setup > TV Channel ... My box marked "Always start in TV mode", was set to off.
and the op's firmware is the same as mine, the latest one...0.9.5020

Radar does bring up a point that maybe the dish is not where you thought it should be and if so that would be the reason for no sound/pic. With so many remotes around here I have at times hit the wrong one (the dish mover one) and the azbox would then not be set on the last signal I was watching, so the dish should be the first point to check before hitting the buttons on the az remote.

I think this may be more operator error than a firmware problem.

Thanks Radar, and Stargaze thanks for the Settings. I am hoping that its not a software / firmware issue as it does say 0.9.5020 and I am just learning how to navigate from the Computer to the AZBox. (Just got this Premium Plus last week from Ricks). The Dish now seems setup fairly well on 97.0W - my True South Satellite, Tp 11966 Q = 68 -70%, and other TP's with a Quality as high as 74%. The lowest TP Quality is 46%. Also the Skew Control on my old Uniden 9900 helps a lot improving Tp signal quality re each Satellite. Guess there is always room for improvement but in July & Aug I had 28 C and KU Sats scanned in on my old Viewsat Receiver with the same Mesh Dish, Actuator, and V Box III setup. The default set on the Azbox is to wake up to TV.

One other thing is that the Blank screen is mostly a rarer occurrence now, but when I recently scanned in 274 TV channels on 97.0W I did notice that some of the channels were shifted around one day later after Booting up. That is, Russia Today shifted from Channel 272 to 197 and the Fashion One Channel changed from Channel 96 to Channel 86, but its been stable ever since - at least for the past 2 days, wonder what would cause this?

If you can upload your channel list from the AZBox to your PC using something like MaZEdit, then you can doublecheck the listings of the HD channels to ensure that they are "flagged" as HD channels. This should be automatically done for you when you scan these HD channels in, but if they are not, you can manually set them yourself to ensure that the box knows that they are HD signals.

You'll have to search around for the exact place to set these flags, but they will appear somewhere within your channel listings just like if you were setting the SR or the FEC.

There is also a feature in the settup for the TP termed PILOT. I am not real sure what this does, but it may have something to do with this, possibly.

I am still quite "grey" on this issue, so please understand that I am merely trying to give you ideas to investigate and not relaying absolute facts or instructions.

On the Video Settings, make sure one of these outputs is checked: Composite, HDMI, and whatever the third one is (I am not at my TV right now). I am using HDMI cable for my setup so it is checked.

Just off the top of my head... Wouldn't the "Pilot" section be for some S2/8PSK signals that have the pilot setting turned either On (1) or Off (0).
I remember seeing these in the tp settings from time to time, no idea what this pilot thing is really about, I just see the numbers.
At least that part (numbers) I'm good at.:)
