NIT question

I notice that whenever I scan the satellites the menu ask if I want the NIT scanned too. What is it? I stayed away from it until someone tells me what is is. The receiver manual doesn't explain what it is.

I always leave it OFF but I found this info on a search of the forum.

"the nit setting will update any channel information that may be on a channel you have previously scanned. such as changing a program 1 listing to actual channel ID's."

I inally got my system tracking. It took alot of trials and errors and alot help from Dirtyshame, Iceberg, and you. I am only programming one satellite at a time.
