NHL 2008-09 Season

Last night's preseason game at the Coliseum against the Devils... Man, if this is any indication of how the season will be (and I think it is, despite it being pre-season), this is going to be even worse than I thought. Granted the Devils used most of their regulars for the game include Brodeur, but our backup goalie - Joey MacDonald, was not impressive to any extent of the imagination. Isles lost 0-3. At least two of those goals in my opinion should have been stopped but everything just seemed off sync on the ice.

The Isles used mostly young players with really only Comrie, Martinek, and Witt being the vets on the ice. A lot of fights from players looking to get a spot on the roster, but there was little or no sync at all. Kind just more of a big mess.

But in any case, I think that can improve - but I'm more concerned with Joey MacDonald being in nets for any length of time without any improvement. DiPietro is out for who knows how long and for a team in "rebuilding mode - the goalie would be the position that could make or break this team.

Maybe we need to sign a vet goalie backup. Is the Buhlin wall still on waivers? :)

Brace yourself for a long, long year of gloating from Sandra.

Okay, SabresRule, I think 3 or 4 reminders that I better brace myself are enough. Rivarly adversity is not new between the fans of both of these teams, and it certainly won't be here. In other words, I don't give a sh!t what people think of the Isles - haven't for 35 years and won't start now. :)

Sorry.

It's just that you're new to me on this board.

Oh, and BTW, I'm still a little ticked off that your Isles stole Zhitnik and Peca, but thanks for Pat LaFontaine!

Nah no worries. I never really started posting until after I installed HD for Dish Network. Weird. But I know everywhere I go and post, I get it from everyone because lets face it, the Isles are usually trying to vie for the final playoff spot - if we're lucky - so most Isles fans have grown a thick skin otherwise we'd be crying every night just from the performance of the team! But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the rivarly which in my opinion is amongst the biggest in sports.

Do you know who my favorite player was before Satan............ Benoit Hogue... :D another Sabre. I liked him more than Turgeon in that trade (thought I really loved Turgeon)... but I missed LaFontaine a lot.

So thats where Joey Mc Donald is now ...
Visitor,
If you are putting your whole season on how a goalie played in a PRE SEASON game, your seriously ruining your season ahead of time, remember it's PRESEASON and even if you have regulars playing it is not a sign of whats to come .... Preseason means absolutely nothing.

Example, Watch the Red Wings for awhile, you will see them play not very well in the early part of the season normally, not look like they have any timing and no flow, then some days it will look like they are in playoff mode.

I would imagine every team goes thru this.
The Red Wings can almost count on having a very poor record in January, it happens every year.

They really don't need to play at a top level until March and into the playoffs, but they do have to play well enough to be in like the top 4 by March, that, they seem to be able to do year in and year out.

Don't give up so sooooon. :D

Hehe, stole Zhitnik??? They did Buffalo a big favor. Zhitnik can't even make Altanta's top 6 defensemen now.

Need I remind you of when Buffalo's defenseman were falling like flies in the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals and basically nobody was healthy (McKee, Numminen, etc.)?

Just think back abit and remember what we really called Zhitnik when he played in Buffalo......Sh**nik. He would make a great offensive play to help score, and then have three defensive laspes in 5 minutes that would cost you 3 goals. Good riddence to him, Satan, and Kalinin.

Wow,
Rangers open Sunday and the Red Wings don't open till THURSDAY ?

Ring ceremony should be just before the game, hopefully they will have it on TV.

Interestingly enough, it's not on the local FSN , so they may not show the ring ceremony, thats too bad.

Game is on VS, CBC and RIS (What is RIS ?)

Jimbo, I would agree with you wholeheartedly, but the reason I say that is because despite a number of vets not playing - we saw a lot of players that will be taking probably most the ice time. Yep, a lot are going to be sent back down to the AHL Bridgeport but I didn't see much cohesion with anyone that was on the ice. We're in rebuilding mode and Scott Gordon was brought in because Ted Nolan wouldn't give these young players enough time on the ice. So while you're probably right that I am panicking too fast, I guess it's the position of the team that makes me think what I saw last Wednesday was a precursor.

I haven't been this pessimistic since Charles Wang bought the team the first year (lost 51 games that year). I personally thought that a partial rebuild with some vets would be better off - but I guess with the pessimism means that I hope I am wrong all the way here.

For some reason - we can't lose to Boston in preseason though. LOL! Also a little disappointed that the Isles and Rangers didn't have their annual pre-season game because the NHL for some reason needs to open with two games overseas.

I guess I haven't completely given up. Scott Gordon was saying at his intro press conference is that their goal is to get to and win the Stanley Cup this year. HAHAHAHA

The Ducks should have a good season but the San Jose Sharks will take it all in 2008/2009 !!
Sorry I lost it there for a minute, I've been saying this for 15 years. ha.

That's not to long. You could end up saying it for another 85 years, you know, like a Cubs fan.

Buffalo better be buyers, not sellers!

If Darcy Regier does any more trades, the fans will want him canned.

He has to ACQUIRE star players, not give them away.

Speaking of Cubs fans.....did anyone else notice Jason very quietly changed his Cubs Hat for a safer Red Wings Logo :D

VERY quietly. Talk about a lousy week sports wise :(

I though about maybe a Rays avatar, after all, with the Cubs out - they are the team I hate the least
