NG HD Question

Has anyone been able to determine if the National; Geo in HD will be in Mpeg2 or 4 ?

I am hoping it will be in 4 so I can actually see something in 4 and verify that my mpeg 4 set up is correct.,
I have had the 5 lnb set up for 5 months now and have yet to see anything in mpeg 4.... I'm kind of curiuos, just to make sure it works.

It's MPEG2 since the HR10's can see it.

NO not true.
I posted this question seperatly because I felt it dealt with an entirely different subject.

I felt if I had posted in the existing thread it would have gotten glossed over and probably missed and I wanted an answer if anyone knew.

It's definitely MPEG-2. The satellites currently transmitting MPEG-4 have only spotbeam capability, although there has been some speculation that they might be reconfigurable to give a CONUS beam for national channels. It looks like putting NG HD onto one of the older satellites, and only providing it in the early hours of the morning (bandwidth issues), is a strong indication that reconfiguring the sats at 99 and 103 can't (or won't) be done. I would expect NG HD to go fulltime and move to MPEG-4 as soon as the first of the new satellites launch later this year.

Jimbo don't be senstive. It's just frustrating sometimes when there are several threads on the same issue and you cannot pinpoint down an answer.

Do you get your local channels through DTV or just OTA? If you get the locals they should be in MPEG4.

What are you talking about? The local HD channels have nothing to do with the NGHC. The NGHC is showing up on my mpeg-2 HR10-250 DVR so that is why the other members are saying it is going to be mpeg-2 for now.

I asked JIMBOS if he was getting locals from DTV because he had nothing in MPEG4 yet that is all. He is looking for some channels in MPEG4. He want to know his dish sees all the sats.

It's FREE that way, and I get more channels !!!
