NFL 2009-10 Season

Two of the New York Jets' top running backs -- Leon Washington and Thomas Jones -- are reportedly unhappy with their contracts and are skipping offseason workouts.

That's bad news for Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, the team's top draft pick who will need a strong running game if he starts from Day 1.

New York Jets reportedly now have two disgruntled RBs, Leon Washington and Thomas Jones - ESPN

Good!!!

I want Leon Washington as far away from the AFC East as possible!

Surprise, surprise: The Lions and Steelers do things differently

By MJD

Larry Foote(notes), who spent last season with the world champion Pittsburgh Steelers, just got his first taste of action with the Detroit Lions. This might come as a shock to you, but the six-time world champion Steelers and the perennially downtrodden Lions take a different approach to things. From MLive.com:

"There are a lot of curse words going on," Foote told Matt Shepard on WDFN-AM Detroit. "I think I heard more f-bombs in one day than I have in five years."

"It's a lot different from Pittsburgh," Foote said. "I don't know if it was the new coaches or the new staff, but it was military style yesterday. Pittsburgh is a little bit more laid back."

I guess that stands to reason. More f-bombs are required in Detroit because there are more players who are f-bomb-ing terrible at playing f-bomb-ing football.

Still, just because that's how the Lions do it, it doesn't mean that that's the wrong way to do it. With Pittsburgh, you have mostly veteran guys who know what they're doing, and they don't need to be screamed at like children. And if someone does get out of line, there are veteran players to set him straight. They can afford to take a more relaxed approach in May.

With Detroit, it's a whole different culture. It's more of a blank slate; with younger players, worse players and players who require more coaching (or the repeated and bloodthirsty screaming of profanity, as the case may be). There's a reason that new defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham and his shooting glasses need to yell four-letter words other than "Pull!"

Enjoy your new culture, Larry Foote.

Wait till you hear all the F-bombs I hurl at your new team Larry. And you will hear them, I'm only 2 miles from the stadium.

From the "I can't believe this one" file - Jason Taylor has resigned with the Dolphins. One year, $1.5M. After everything that went down between him and Parcell?

it was reported that they both seem to be getting along very well. they've been seen talking a lot and even joking together. go figure........... there's still a chance he doesn't make it on the team. if he does i can't see this being a bad thing.......

Hmmmm....the team that uses a lot of F-bombs didn't win one game, while the team that acts like grown ups won the Superbowl.

Foote is talking about the new coaching regime here in Detroit. I do suppose there were a lot of F-bombs flying around Ford Field last season also. Mostly from the stands I'll bet.

All the QB stories could be interesting this year... more Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn stuff, every team in the AFC West aside from the Chargers has turnover or potential turnover at QB. Russel and Garcia are getting equal time with the first team in the Raiders camp, with talk of Jamarcus looking pretty average and the multiple regime changes he's gone through probably setting him back a year... but Garcia has issues tossing the deep ball doubtful Davis would let Cable start Garcia though. Those two guys couldn't be more different style-wise. Going back and forth could be pretty detrimental I'd think. Cassel reportedly had a contract extension in place on draft day, but that talk went away so he has to show he's worth the $14mil he's getting paid this year. Orton in Denver, that'll be fun to watch develop ... lol.

I could not stop laughing....LMAO!

LMAO....! I am curious....that stadium is HUGE...I guess you could hear the swearing because there was barely people there....or the fans were in such "dear in headlights mode" that they were mum most of the game....?

The stadium was only half full for the the last two games. Players commented that they could hear individual insults loud and clear between the booing. We got a lot of loud mouth fans here in Detroit. some who's voices cut through like a foghorn through the fog.

A lot of attention was given to the acoustics of the stadium. I guess Ford may regret that now.

Garcia, in MY opinion will never start over Russell UNLESS he starts the season so bad that the players would ask for the change....ESPECIALLY all the $$$ they thre his way. I am not sure where you getting your info, but the ONLY thing I have heard...and ALL have been in blogs....is that JaMarcus might have come in 10 lbs over weight. I have heard no credible place that has stated the same OR that they are getting equal reps.

I think Garcia is there to install his work ethic into JaMarcus. Not a bad backup at any rate. I don't see oakland keeping the franchise QB on the bench. You learn alot faster on the field than on the pine.

I didn't hear the overweight stuff, but have been reading that JaMarcus doesn't really have the work ethic of a franchise QB, and Garcia has been talking a bit too much in radio interviews about the Kerry Collins and Kurt Warner situations, and stuff like:

"...I think there has to be some realization at some point as to putting the best players on the field that are going to give you the best chance to win."

Doesn't matter what sources I report from, the responses are predictable. If it's negative for your teams, you say stuff like 'omg preseason team rankings are bunk' or 'omg lions are just going to suck more, they're wrong' or 'it's just blogs' followed by multiple posts full of thumbs up/down, emoticons, etc. All this is OK, but I plead that you at least add thoughts and comments, instead of just telling people they're wrong. Make it a thread of conversation, not of emoticons and denials about our teams.

It's news worth discussing/knowing about, so I tack it onto the thread, and as far as the Raiders are concerned, there won't be much that falls in the good category until they start winning games again. Oakland will put money aside to get rid of a player that isn't working out... see also DeAngelo Hall, who was just quoted as saying Oakland is where players in their prime go to die.

In other Raider news, they failed to claim Chiefs WR Will Franklin off waivers cause the Lions had priority... so now that the Lions have cut him they got their guy. I liked Will Franklin, he didnt get much of a chance in KC.

Hmmm...a few things to address....

First and foremost, the "overweight" news was from reporters that were AT the mini-camp. So your assumption that my comments on anything about MY team being nothing more than "it's just blogs' followed by multiple posts full of thumbs up/down, emoticons, etc." ....holds about as much water as a paper napkin. NOBODY here is more critical about the Raiders than I am. And when I mean critical, I am talking about what they do wrong, what they need to do and what is missing....NOT the typical BS from typical Raiders haters consisting of "they suck", "they quitters" and my favorite, "they set football back 50 years....". So to me, unless REPORTERS are reporting it...some lone reporter...a decent sample size is reporting it.....it is nothing be assumptions. IF JaMarcus had a "bad work ethic", which seems to be the new catchy phrase...he would have NEVER been the starting QB at LSU and he would have been seriously hurt by seasons end last year because he would have been sloppy and lazy. I love how people can litterally attack this guy as a QB when they conveniently forget the CRAP the Raiders have had for offensive weapons the last couple of years.....AND the swiss cheese offensive line they have had. The Raiders could have had Dan Marino in his prime back there and it would not made a difference....it would have been worse because in all my years in Miami, I RARELY saw Dan Marino run...!

Now as far as "there won't be much that falls in the good category until they start winning games again. Oakland will put money aside to get rid of a player that isn't working out... see also DeAngelo Hall"....you are not stating any major news alert because EVERYONE KNOWS THIS.....especially Raider Fans. And as far as DeAngelo Hall is concerned....funny how when he was getting lit up like a christmas tree, everyone in here was talking about how much he sucks, how is terrible he was...hello??!!! NOW he is full of wisdom??!! What they guy got was a lottery hit....plain and simple. He got his money and ran. NOW suddenly, there is credibility in his words. IF or WHEN he becomes a Pro Bowl starter again....then maybe he has enough credibility to listen to what he has to say, until then, he is NOTHING more than a later day Elvis "Toast" Patterson....

The fact that the LION'S cut him, doesn't concern you? I mean, if the Lion's didn't want him....
