NFL 2009-10 Season

Just the continuing "sissification' of the NFL. What is a defensive lineman supposed to do if he's knocked to the turf? Does he have to stand up again to hit the QB? Might as well just put a couple of flags on the QB. I'm all for making the game safer, but this is ridiculous. You can hit everybody on the field but not the QB. The ball boy has less protection than a NFL QB. The way this rule is written, if I were a O-line, I'd just knock the defender to the turf, by time he gets up the play is over. First the "Brady tuck", now this. This kid is singlehandedly changing the NFL rule book.

Heh I'm not sure Pollard would have been flagged with that description, he had a patriot on all but his back. I'm not sure he'd have hit his knee if the other Patriot wasn't there. Maybe if the block was a little less of a wrestling tackle :p

It looked like he lunged for Brady. I wouldn't characterize the play as being a cheap shot or dirty. It just looked like he was trying to make a play, just doing his job. But there is my point. What was he supposed to do? Quit on the play because all he could reach was Brady's leg (below the knee)? The way the rule is written, he's out of the play, unless he can reach above the knees. This is just silly. You can tackle a WR or a RB in this fashion, but not a QB? RB's take a lot more hits than QB's. Probably more below knees than QB's also.

I guess knocking a QB unconscious or giving him a serious concussion is much more manly.

Well stated.

So it's what, a 15-yard penalty?? Big deal. I'm not saying to purposely cheap shot a QB, but if a similar Pollard/Brady play happens again, a simple yardage penalty is not going to be a big deal for teams to absorb, especially early in games. It probably would be a lot fewer yards than they would have allowed if they let the QB run the play....

WHAT is the line suppose to do? Stop? Sit and watch quietly or maybe doodle on a sketch pad? I mean gimme a break...they gave him a free pass with that BULL**** tuck rule...NOW they added a dress to his stiletto heels!!!

If Pollard would be required to get to his feet first, then I think holding should have been called instead. Looking at it a couple times, it probably could have been called anyways.

Really is a wrestling type block, the Patriot just didnt swing around the back to get the points.

I agree that this rule is BS. What is a defensive player supposed to do!

They gave HIM a free pass???

It was the interpretation of a RULE!! Stupid rule? Yes. But a rule nonetheless.

As for the dress comment......................

I agree. I've said it all year long, there was no cheap shot there.

That was just homer Patriots fans whining.

Please understand beforehand that I am a Brady fan (being a MICHIGAN man). BUT, I wonder if this had happened to somebody like Orlovsky (wouldn't have changed the Lion's season one bit), if they would have changed this rule?

Big Bad Shaun Rogers Reports to Voluntary Camp!

Rogers and Mangini did not exactly get off on the right foot this winter. Reportedly starting at the Great Cleveland Sports Awards, and then coincidentally escalating when Albert Haynesworth signed a $100 million contract, Rogers rumors were everywhere.

But while many felt that the bridge had already been burned by our new head coach, GM George Kokinis feels otherwise with big No. 92 now present at his party.

How did it happen? Well, it sounds like a bit of compromising took place between the two parties.

Kokinis said Rogers intended to fulfill “his contractual obligations,” and that “whatever weight” he wanted to play at was fine with Kokinis because he dominated last season.

His teammates are embracing him right out of the gate, and he is taking part in practices that he does not have to be a part of. All of this not long after many thought that he could either be traded, or may actually hold out of training camp for more money.

I have to admit, you definitely have a point there.

Just to be clear:

1. I don't think that was a cheap hit on Brady

2. I agree that this new rule is BS

What I take exception to is the Tuck Rule being called the "Brady Rule".

Sorry Bill...the mear mention of the "Tuck Rule" drives me nutz. A rule that the last time was called was during the Nixon Administration and it being called in an OT game during a playoff still steams me.

As for the dress....yes, I said it. IF they would have done the same things for Manning, Montana, Bart Starr or Dan Marino.....I would have said the same thing.

No offense intended, I was just going with the current nomenclature. My apologies.
