I am a newby to sat stuff, but I'm generally pretty good with electronics. I have an SD receiver and I want to upgrade to an HD receiver. Is this something that is easy to do? I would think it is just a matter of unplugging coax from sd receiver and plugging into new hd receiver. Do I need to pay DirecTV 50 bucks for install?

That would depend on which dish you have... please describe your setup. If you're not sure, check you satellite tab in menu for your setup.

If you don't have SWiM Lnb or SWiM16, you'll need a B Band Converter. That is unless you get the H23 which would not require B Band Converters. Same for a HR-23: no B Band Converters but you'd need two coaxial cables from multi-switch, one per tuner.

The SWiM is easy (no B Band Converters) but if you have a BSF (band-stop-filter) installed, it s/b removed.

You'll also need HD Access to enable HD.

Essentially all you need is a new hd receiver and a Slimline dish. The dish requires a new mount because the pole is bigger than the one used on the dish you have. If you can install the pole yourself, the receiver is plug and play.

I do have the Slimline dish and the SWiM Lnb inline on the tv I want to upgrade. We have HD service, in fact I have an HR-21 DVR in the living room. This HD receiver will be for DLP in rec room. You guys confirmed what I thought. It's good to get the scoop from folks who know. I appreciate it.
