Newbie Troubles

Hi Themango69, I'm also in Orlando and maybe if you are still having trouble I could come over this weekend and try to help.

I have a small 13 TV that we could hoop up at the dish to get you locked on to one of the satellites.

Let me know, DC

Your small 13TV has the RCA type connections on the back? Most of the ones I've used in the past only have the Coax on the back, so just want to make sure. I may have to take you up on your offer because I spent another hour trying to hit 79W and 97W with no Quality jump at all.

Remember to have a Live TP selected!

Me and my partner are going around on the TP setting. The Elite will default select one when you switch between the Sats, so I'm confused on if it is selecting the one that you should be using or not. I know the previous setting you gave me for the 97W one we had set that correctly. As far as the 79W one, I went through all of them with no such luck - where can I find info on what this setting should be for each satellite?

As soon as I get some things done wrapped up for work, I am going to take some pictures to attach for you guys to review my mistakes :) I think that will help in getting me up and running.

Too bad I only have computer knowledge to offer in return, so if you ever have any questions related to computers feel free so I at least don't feel like a complete moocher!

Do you have a compass?
The receiver is dumb, it does not know one TP from another. You have to select which one you want each time you switch Sats.
For 79West look for TP: 12181
For a List the TPs, look at the Top of this Web Page, look for the Tab called "The List"When aligning, you are making very small moves
Use the map on this link to get an idea where you should aim your dish...
Satellite Look Angles Satellite Heading Calculator Azimuth Elevation Skew Tilt LNBF Latitude and Longitude values
Enter your location and select the Sat you are trying to hit.
Point the Dish(Azimuth, each sat is different)
Set Elevation(each sat is different)
Skew(tilt) LNB(each sat is different)
Have Live TP selected in Menu(each sat is different)
Slowly move Dish Left and Right
If nothing, Rise / Lower elevation 1deg and repeat, Left / Right

I am using a poor compass, it does not have numbers but does have some notches and it is very small - but it does give me pretty good indication of direction/degree.

Man I can't believe I never saw that list! hah Now, that all makes sense. Is this list updated, as I can see from the 79W one - it shows 12181 like you state but the Elite only lets me select from list and the closest to it I see is 12182 - being one off, is that big of a difference or is it a just a typo on website?

I am getting on roof now and taking pictures of current settings to see if I'm doing something wrong and possibly you can tell from pictures.

no thats fine. Each LNB can fluctuate the frequency by 1 or 2 especially when doing a blind scan

The pics look good. Latitude on motor is fine but I think on the dish its too low..

We originally had it on the bottom screw hole, but at this level it was causing 2 issues:

1) We were having trouble locking it down to match the same angle as the pole it was mounted on. We were wanting to do this to rule out the setting that the bracket has for the dish bracket (as seen here: Picasa Web Albums - Brandon - Satellite). It has a setting and I figured if i had it at same straight angle as the other one then we could rule out this setting.

2) With lower setting, it was hard to tighten it down as the weight of the satellite was causing it to go downwards.

The Motor Lat. looked like it was set at 32, shouldn't it be at 28.6 - to match his Lat.?
Dish should be at 25, looks like 20 now

I've made these tweaks as best I could. I believe i'm about at 29 right now for LAT and the Dish is hard to tell where it's at because it does not have a small line telling me which setting it is at. I have moved it as far down as I can and now it's hitting the actual pole so it cannot go any further than that. I would think by being able to move it around that I would at least hit Quality once, but it's amazing how accurate these things need to be to work. Hopefully the gentleman who offered assistance can help me out this weekend because a small tv is probably what would make this alot easier.

See Pic....

I assume that picture you show here is Photoshopped with the orange line right? I definitely don't have that lol

I will have to go back up and alter based off of your observations because I am not exactly these numbers.

Yes, Photoshop. Use a Marker, makes it easier to see.
Use the Sat Setup page, but select your Motor vs. the Sat...
Satellite Look Angles Satellite Heading Calculator Azimuth Elevation Skew Tilt LNBF Latitude and Longitude values

lol that was my goofiness...i thought that was your own personal picture but you had just edited mine. i saw the line when i went back up there. I have now set them to exactly what you show in your pics and I will have to be taking new pictures now to make sure you can recheck everything. I will then have to wait until someone gets home so they can help tell me if i get quality when moving dish around.

Looks like my settings need to be:

Elevation:56.5°
Azimuth (true): 174.8°
Azimuth (magn.): 180.3° using Compass
LNB skew: -4.5°

I will go and review up there to make sure all of this is set correctly. To be sure, I can ignore the true Azimuth right and just use the Magnetic one since i'm using compass?

How do you know what setting to set the dish at, like you previously said 25, how did you know that?

If you can, run to the store a get a better Compass.
Once you have those 2 set, rotate the Motor on the pole to 185.5° using Compass
