newbie question

sup guys. just wondering if the box HAS to be hooked up to a phone line in order for the DVR to work. reason i asked is because the the box is in a newly built room where there isnt a phone line. its more like a remodeled porch.

any suggestions to my problem? or am i SOL?

i don't keep mine hooked up. the phone jack is on the other side of the room. i do hook it up one or two days a week though with a long phone line.

it'll remind you to hook up and check messages.

Which DVR? If the R15 then no, if one of the DirecTivo's then yes to not get nag screens.
