Newbie needs help

Ok I'm completely new to this and need some help. I live in Barbados and I was wondering what satellites I would be able to pick up and what channels with what size dish.

Also what type of free channels are avaible ? Currently I only have access to 1 channel so I guess anything would be better but I would just like to know whats out there first before I start investing in anything.

Here are the channels available from the USA, make sure to check Lyngsat to see if you are in the footprint. Some of the below satellites will be C-Band needing at least a 6' dish

C-Band signals have a 4 digit Freq.

Ku band signals have a 5 digit Freq.

If you find any channels that your interested in on the lyngsat list, just click on the BEAM at the right hand side for the coverage of the sat beam.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. I guess an 8 foot dish with a motor would be a better bet then. BTW....are the majority of channels out there in English ?

Not really but looking above at the satellites you can reach over the Atlantic you may get more in English channels FTA than most of us.

Ok..right now I'm checking out the free american channles on lyngsat. Now I see HBO, Encore West on Echostar1 and ABC,CBS,CW,NBC,Fox on Galaxy 16. The beam section is not clickable for either of these sats so I caan tell if my area is covered..but I would like to know if I would be able to get both sats with an 8 foot dish and motor.

NO those are PAY channels anyway

There are some channels ITC (In the Clear) on the Echostar satellites NASA and GOL TV, others come and go.

So why do they say they are free on lyngsat ?? The "F" is there in video encryption and the say digital clear.

Yes there are FTA networks there on C-band (4 digit Freq. need a 6' dish min. here)
