Hi All -- I'm new to the forum and I’m loving it!

I want to switch from Comcast to Dish Network because I am not happy with the PQ. I have few questions:

1) How are the picture quality and signal strength of dish network in S. Florida (Miami in particular)? Would the service get interrupted every time it rains?

2) I am interested in getting TurboHD and one of the international packages. From my readings in this great forum I think I need two dishes one pointing to129 (For HD) and the other pointing to 118 (for international), is this correct? is there a way I can have 1 satellite dish instead of two?

3) Can the dvr (vip722) be used for both packages? I am asking because I don't want two set-top boxes.

Thanks.

AME

I'm in the process of upgrading to the 722. Only one box to do SD and HD. And I was told only 1 antenna.....But I've been told things before.....I'm hoping.

I'm curious to see if it involvs new cable wiring......Does standard RG6 carry both the SD & HD ??

Hi i live in miami fl and have dish for almost 12 yrs now and the picture is pretty good and hd is great. The only time is during a real fl rain i loss reciption yet it comes back in minutes. Harvey

the 722 will display HD & SD and is capable of picking up international.. the picture quality is pretty good.. down time between storms will probably be less then cable (that thing use to go out on me daily).. you won't be pointed to 129 in florida.. 61.5 for HD.. dunno if you'll get the new eastern arc setup..

Thank you all for the prompt response.

From where I live, I can only see 110, 118, 119, 129 and 148. I don’t think I can be pointed to 61.5.

What are the chances that I can get TurboHD channels with strong signals from 110, 118, 119, 129 and 148?
In one of the posts a poster mentioned that he was able to get 110, 118, 119 and 129 using one dish 1000. Is this possible in Miami?

Thanks again.

It is pretty difficult to get 129 from south Florida.

You are outside the normal footprint of the satellite and 129 is very low on the western horizon.

61.5, on the other hand, is pretty high in the sky to the east.
