New SW on the Hopper REALLY sucks!

If anyone is suffering with five tiles on their DVR view, I'll let you know that my 4K Joey on my Hopper 3 still has six columns of show tiles with the text underneath. All you need do is upgrade to the Hopper 3.

"Come to the Dark Side, it is your Destiny..." ;)
Nah, a 4K Joey would still work with my Hopper Duo if that is all I wanted one for. I am pretty sure the 4K Joey would also work with a Hopper 2. :)

...with 16 Tuners, you don't need 2 DVR's anymore and if you experienced just how fast and fluid these are....

How can a single DVR regardless of the number of tuners accommodate my requirements. Specifically, two people who record many of the same shows, including many sporting events, who are unable to watch them together due to different schedules, and who want to start the recording at the beginning, pause it when necessary, and resume it where previously paused. If a DVR with many tuners allowed more than one tuner to record a show it might work, but without that ability we need two DVRs. Two Hopper 3s are working great for us. The new software bug is a minor annoyance but an annoyance it is. Hopefully it is fixed soon.

Doesn't the "Resume" function keep track of where the show was paused on each receiver? In other words, if one of you was watching the show on the Hopper, and the other one was watching on a Joey, you should still have the option to pick up where you left off, with only one copy of the recording, as long as neither of you delete it before the other one finishes watching it. That may not be ideal, but it would be a work-around, if it works.

Well, I can tell you this. As installers, we're buried with problems with these last software updates. No Joey Software, Hopper Slings taking an hour+ to d/l software, Joeys going "black", remotes not pairing or staying paired.... the list goes on. Dish screws us worse than the customers in some ways, but one thing they never seem to do is take much accountability or offer solutions on our tech forum and the problems with 2 Hopper installs that you guys posted about - which I then posted on the tech forum - not 1 person from Dish replied. Just other techs that are going to TC's for it. Take that as you will, but I wouldn't be holding my breathe.

Know what I haven't had problems with? Hopper 3's and Joey 3's. I get the issue of a 2yr agreement AND, like you said, separate DVR's, but that aside, with 16 Tuners, you don't need 2 DVR's anymore and if you experienced just how fast and fluid these are.... It's like this. I had a computer I built 8 yrs ago. I went all out and considered it pretty capable right up til i built my new computer - and went all out (for over $3000.00) - and realized what a dinosaur POS my old one was.

Food for thought

Thanks for the response ! :clapping From reading your responses to others in other threads, you seem to care about what you sign-off on work-wise. I feel I was fortunate in my original install, after reading the horror install stories from Dish Customers.

I'm sure eventually I will upgrade to the current equipment.....722k >>> Hws >>> ??? :biggrin None of the issues I have are earth shattering to me (that depends on the Mrs ;))....that guide thingy does drive me batty at times, the EHD accessing can be a chore to use many software upgrades ago......

I've grown immensely reading about others experiences and hopefully being a better informed Dish Customer.:hatsoff

Don't really know as I've never had a Joey. I started with two 311s, two 721s, two 722Ks, two Hoppers, two HWSs and now two Hopper 3s. I've had EHDs attached to both as long as that's been an option and the setup has always worked for us. I like the redundancy. I guess I'm just too old and set in my ways to see the need to change something that works so well. I don't do cloud storage, don't do Facebook, I don't want a any devices in my house that listen in on conversations, and I don't see the benefit of a Joey. Now, if I could just figure out why I can't access this site with my flip phone.....

Oh, I agree with you. You asked how a single DVR could accommodate the requirements you listed, so I gave you an answer. I was certainly not suggesting that you should actually switch to that setup. :)

Completely understand and appreciate the response. I guess I never looked into how Joey's work. Do they allow for the recording of the same shows as on the Hopper? And if so are the recordings truly independent? If so, it may have worked. I guess I just assumed they didn't have their own hard drives and therefore couldn't manage recordings in the manner we wanted. If they could, well that just falls into the list of things I've been wrong about. The older I get the longer the list gets.

All of the recordings are on the Hopper. Joeys do not have their own hard drives. I was just saying that a single recording could be managed at two different locations independently. (Two different users can be watching the same recording at different points in the event.) Another option to have two completely separate recordings would be to record both the HD feed and SD feed at the same time. That would use two tuners like you suggested. Of course, that would mean that one of you would be watching in standard-def. Or, you could just keep the SD recording as a back-up in case you need it. Obviously, not every channel is carried in both formats, so that would not be an option in every case.

The fight over who'd watch the SD football game isn't one I'd probably win. Besides, too much money spent on the two new 4K Samsungs. Don't even have the SD channels in the guides.

Just discovered something else weird. Went into Trash to restore something, and the tiles there are mostly just the channel they came from, ALONG WITH THE TITLES! Nearly everything in Trash doesn’t have a program icon, just the channel. Why can’t this be a choice for the not deleted events????
