New Software Version S315 for Hopper With Sling is Here

IMHO the 'Press SELECT for viewing options' bubble pop up is very annoying and pretty much does nothing useful.

So it seems like the update didn't do much...that we can see. Still a bunch of problems that are not fixed, but they play around with the user interface. Does their senior or mid-level management ever set priorities??

The red button screen, to me, is not a great enhancement. Agree with the poster that the pop-up balloons. They are goofy and pointless. Reminds me of VH1's old Pop Up Video program. OK, so maybe show it once then never again. Plus, it offers nothing extra when you do hit select for the program you are watching except go to the station which is what it used to do anyway. The messaging is pointless.

I liked in the past on my HWS (where I do not have PTA enabled) where the third tuner slot would always show what as airing on the 4 major networks and I could select them (above image). Beats bringing up the guide and having to scroll to them. Now, it looks like the only time PTA shows display as a list on the 3rd tuner is when I'm watching one of the broadcasts from them, when you have PTA enabled (which does make sense) or on a Joey linked to a tuner with one of the two conditions just mentioned.

Priorities: fix the problems first, then pretty things up or add new features.

The RED button works better now, you can watch the other tuners more easily.

On the other hand , I am getting dropouts from my optical audio again . .they had them fixed in the previous version.

One Step Forward, One Step Backwards.

We also have had the optical audio issue return. We have to skip back and skip forward on every channel change to get sound. Another solution is to go to TV sound via HDMI. However, that defeats having a home theater system.

It was partially fixed with 311. We had sound when we changed channel. However recordings made OTA could have sound problems.315 has brought back the channel change sound problems.

It has nothing to do with the audio system. If you have an optical audio connection to a receiver it stops sound when you skip forward and then you have to skip forward or skip backward a few times to get the sound back. It was fixed previous version, bug is back again now.

HDMI is not affected by this , just optical output.

We understand that it is happening when using an optical cable. Optical cables are normally used with audio system. What brand and model TV do you have?

Zachh@Dish Network and mitchflorida

I got 2 new Hoppers with Sling 3 days ago. I now have the optical audio problem. HDMI audio works to the TV while the optical is out. This makes me wish I had never upgraded. Tech Support basically said too bad since I have a picture and HDMI audio. (useless to me) I'll list my TV and Receiver Models for Zach. I had no problems at all with my old Hoppers. Thanks.

TV ; Sony KDL-52XBR4
Receiver ; Sony STR-DA4ES

The optical cable goes directly from the Hopper to my Pioneer VSX D814 Receiver . The TV has nothing to do with the sound output.

In my case, the sound output works but is erratic.

Mine is Yamaha receiver model HTR-6030
Tv is a Sony Bravia xbr

I too am having the same issue. Sounds gone and back when I change channels using the surround sound . Online csr blamed it on my receiver saying that if it was a software issue the sound would go out on both tv speakers and surround sound. I'm using an optical cable as well.

One thing I'd like to see improved with the hopper is the ability to display a mini guide on the side and a bigger side picture so you can watch tv. Pulling up the current guide makes it too big and shrinks the picture down. Can that be done in a software update??

Got the upgrade overnight last night. When I turned my system on this afternoon, the HWS powered up with everything else, but was then unresponsive to remote input - from my Harmony, or the OEM remote. I rebooted it using the red button. After the reboot, I had no audio. I shut everything down with the Harmony and brought it back up, and it has been fine since.

I have a KDL60EX700 TV and Denon AVR-1910, using HDMI from HWS --> Denon --> TV.

Talking about improvements on the Hopper, how about changing the default buffer time on the Hopper from one hour to two hours or even three hours?

So if you leave the channel on pause you can go back two hours in the program such as watching TCM or the news networks.

DirecTV already has an automatic 2 hour buffer, but with Hopper you should make it 2 or 3 hours, as long as it is on the same channel. Of course, if you change the channel without saving , you lose the buffered content.

Well I know With directv if you tune in late you can go back and watch the show and that's one of directv's bashing points when they compare themselves to dish. The question is can dish change this with a software update ??
