I had a 211K with my VIP 722 several years ago. I don’t that has changed.
I seem to recall multiple posts from people in RV's using a tailgater with a mix of ViP211 (k or z) and a Wally.
I don't know. I just asked the boss and she said she's pretty sure the answer is no VIP's at all with Wally's but the next time she builds a new account she'll try it and see.
Since they aren't going to support the Vip dvrs any longer past this month , it would make sense that this policy is correct. They are wanting people to upgrade to the newer Hopper /Wally class of receivers and away from the past receivers. This would make customers have to choose what they want more : cling to the past and keep the Vip dvr or head into the future with the newest technology. I have to agree this would be best for DISH if they stopped supporting the older classes of receivers and only support the newer ones . Less software to keep up with and less sending older boxes in for replacements, etc. It would cost a lot less for them as a company to stream line their receiver classes to the Hopper and Wally .
It'll cost less and they'll get less revenue too.
My daughter rarely watches TV anymore and I've amassed terabytes of shows and movies to last me through my retirement. As soon as I'm no longer able to keep my ViP and grandfathered fees, bye-bye.
I went to give my parents the downloaded instructional manual for the Wally and the remote control. My dad had messed with the settings and had the guide where he couldn't read it. I reset it and spent another two hours over there going over and over the way things work. I figure it will take them a couple of weeks to figure this out. Since I already had my timers in there I just went through and asked them if they watched that show and if not deleted them. I then set up some timers for news etc. The best part is : CHANNEL 6 CBS stays on the air now. So the dual tuner ota dongle is an improvement over the Vip ota module I had on the 722k.
I have a Wally and 211K on my account still.
I also changed the color format on my Wally to compare it to MikeD-C05's father, My Wally stopped recognizing the Hard Drive. It took every combination I could think of to get a response from the HD. I finally pulled power supply on both Wally and HD and it recognized the HD but remained locked up. Second power reset got it back to functioning. Wally still has glitches, Mike you might want to keep in mind power resets for your father.

They have at least 10 years with DISH through me on my second account, so they are well versed in the three type of reboots. When they don’t work they call me.
One thing I hadn't seen in here, but just in case, if anyone has Wallys connected to 34 switches, the new upgrade to dual tuner means the 34 switches need to be changed out for 44 switches
Since it is DPP, I think it would be fine. The only reason the 34 would need to be replaced is because it is DP, I am guessing.
So she tried to enter a 211K and a Wally on the same account and the system would not allow it.
I wonder if that is just a restriction on new accounts, that would not necessarily apply to someone who already had a 211k on an existing account.
I don't know. He didn't say that a 211k couldn't be put on a new account at all, just not at the same time as a Wally.
So has anyone heard a retirement date for the ViPs or is this just the halt of new activations so far?
