New Pricing Chart

I've asked before but never seen a clear, straight, forward answer so I'll try again.

Would it be safe to say that the "Free for life HD" channels will all of the HD channels listed under one of tiers (AT120, At200, & AT250) on the Dish site page that shows the three HD packages? This would also include locals and sports packages, right.

Are the HD channels listed as part of the Platinum HD bonus at the bottom of the page the only extra HD channels you'll get as part of the HD Platinum package after June 3rd?

If that's the case, I never watch them so I can save myself $8 a month.

Safe, no.

But, you are correct.....for now...

AEP was $99.99 before the new pricing and $99.99 after the new pricing. Why would the rate go up?

According to the chart if you do not pay the $99.00 price tag or sign a two year agreement HD is not free it will cost $10.00 per month thus a $10.00 raise since we do not pay fot HD now or have to sign up for a dum. plan called free hd for life.

The current AEP does not include HD either. You are paying $10 per month for it now and possibly getting Platinum free.

They are splitting out HD and Platinum for everyone. It isn't specific to any one package.

AEP itself is becoming a better deal. You were already saving $3 per month and now will be saving $7 per month (3 + 2 + 2).

So let me see if I understand this correctly. I'm going to sign up as a new customer in July. I plan to get America's top 250 and the hd add on. I have no plans for paperless billing. So I will no longer be able to get Platinum HD included for free with the hd add on as before. So I will now have to pay for both HD add on and HD platinum?

I believe it's a 24 month commitment, and one of the three for "HD for Life": $99 up front, paperless billing, or CC auto-pay.

If you choose not to do any of the above, then yes, you'll pay $10 for HD and $10 for HD Platinum.

Paperless billing doesn't seem like a bad option if it saves you $10 a month.

If I'm wrong here with the info someone please correct me. :)

I too am thinking about switching before June 3rd. To go from TurboHD (Dish America) Silver to AT 120+RSN I would loose these HD channels:

  • Animal Planet
  • Bravo
  • CBS College Sports
  • Disney XD
  • Golf Channel
  • Lifetime Movie Network
  • WGN America
  • NFL Network
  • NBA TV
  • NHL Network
But gain these HD channels:

  • E! Network
  • Fox News Channel
  • MTV
  • Nickelodeon
  • VH1
And my price would be the same (after June 3rd). Hmmm....
Fixed for you on what you lose.

Well this summer I decided that I would sub to AEP + plat pack . It is a much better savings over using top 250 with say 2 premiums+ plat. You are only paying $35.00 for all 4 premium packs. I plan to watch a lot of movies this summer. If I determine that Plat pack is not showing that many new movies on Epix channels , then I will drop the plat pack and save the $10.00.

I think the paperless billing and CC auto-pay are part of the same committment required.

It reads:

"Requires 24 month commitment and AutoPay with Paperless Billing OR $99 one-time HD Programming upgrade."

That big OR would say to me that the first two (2 yr commitment and Autopay) aren't different options, but rather part of the same required commitment. IE... pay $99 or you need to sign on for 2 years and AutoPay with Paperless Billing.

For a $10 fee (unless you're grandfathered in), you can call Dish Network and they will explain the new pricing scheme in plain English. If you sign up for auto-pay during the explanation, that $10 fee is waived down to $0 but you will be required to pay an additional DVR fee of $2/month for 5 months, at which point, if you had the cinemax for a penny deal, would then increase to the affordable price of $12/month (unless you call back later to cancel). If you don't have a DVR, you can get a free DVR upgrade for teh low installation price of $99--which can be used as a rebate for the HD for life. Now, if you had a 24 month agreement, none of the above would apply to you, unless you EVER had the HBO free for 3 months. If you aren't eligible for any of the above offers, Dish will come out, slap a new mesh dish on the side of your house--so when you're so frustrated with the pricing scheme, you can go out and shoot your dish with a dove/Quayle round because, hey, the shot will go right through the little holes and not damage the dish!

Finally an explanation I can understand! Thank you!

One thing that does bother me is in the future, will E* start adding new HD channels to the Platinum pack only, so they could push subscribers to get that pack, or pay more for it?

Broadcasters probably wouldn't agree to this.

In the above quote, it says, It reads:

What reads?

Why don't someone who knows, post a link to where the real info on free hd for life can be read by all of the confused people.

Dish is going to make SD only customers pay/subsidice for this "free HD" thing. With more SD customers then HD...Dish will probably be able to make the difference now....but with more HD customers signing up....probably in 1 yr...Dish is going to feel the pinch....& increase the price of the package by abt $5...not to mention change the name of the package again....in the belief that their customers will not know the difference

Okay, is it safe to assume that the Dish America packages are the HD channels that are included in the corresponding AT packages? So, if I rarely watch SD channels on my AT200 +HD, I could switch to Dish America Silver, get the same HD channels as now, and save $10/mo? Or, I could get the HD channels included with the AT250 +HD for the same price I'm paying now with Dish Americas Gold. Either way, I've got the $10 for Platinum as well.

Another Question: Would the Dish America locals include the SD and HD versions, or just the HD version? Also, would the Dish America packages include the PI channels (NASA, UWTV, etc.)?

My review of Dish after a few weeks

Is local channels required now?
