New prices/packages?

Does anyone have any idea how long D* will allow us to use the "old packages" ?
I am sure there must be a set time frame....Just thinking, I wonder how adding the Sports Pak or HBO in say March would affect ones "old package" status?

Not sure, but it would not suprise me that you could stay with the old package as long as you want for the money your currently paying, the package name will go away and then no one new can get it, you would be grandfathered, BUT as soon as you change something in the package,it would go to the new packages and prices.

There are alot of people that have old cheaper packages still.

Here's another question or 2:

Now you can pay extra for Seleccíon en Español as an add-on at $19.99 per month on any account and get all he "Spanish" channels. Will this price increase?

If I make changes to my current account prior to the February date, will they be grandfathered?

Thanks ...
:)

Personally I am interested to see what DirecTV will do for us folks that have the the H10 NS H10-250 units. Since I own my units, what are they going to do when St. Louis finally gets local HDs on the satellites. I know that this has been discussed before, but has anyone got a definative answer?

I'm with you. My H10 (for better or worse) is mine. Now, I am going to upgrade sometime this spring (I want to be ahead of any potential rush, the closer we get to D10 going live) but D* does not have to know that upfront.

For those of us with MPEG-2 only boxes are we going to be forced to upgrade to new equipment? Also I would assume such an upgrade would kick us existing contract folks into the new higher HD service fee.

Well, since St.Louis local HD has ALREADY been on D* for several months now, why don't you call up D* & ask them... ;)

Wow, looks like Dish's prices look a little better on the low end. The family package does not even compare to Dish's comparable soon to be AT100 package in which are both around the same price. Satellite is really starting to get expensive.

Sats are getting expensive, but give cable an hour or two and its prices will surpass the sats.

St. Louis has had HD LiL since 5/17/2006. They have all four of the Big Four networks at this time.

Yea Dish's prices look better on the low end.But you have to figure in the Charlie factor"Now you see your channels!,Now you DON'T"!!!!.

so do I have until March 1st to claim an "Old " package? I got in on the NFLST deal they had going with the premier package free for 4 months

DISH has always had cheaper package rates, but there are less channels in those packages.

I think they have a package for $ 19.99 currently, but you have to look and see what it in the packages when you compare prices

I wouild choose whichever package you want for now, and change if you want later.
I actually see this change to be NO BIG DEAL, if you get the HD stuff, breaks down to about the same price I pay now. They have basically threw the individual things into a package and gave it a price and name.

And the one thing we know about Dish is unless your locked in on a rate in the low packages. The rate increases for every Dish subscriber.:hungry:

I am not that annoyed by the price increase. For me, it is just a few more bucks per year....which I can afford.

Hopefully this is it even when the new birds go up

Question from someone considering switching from cable to D*:

if I get the Premier package for $100 and the $11 HD access fee, I get:

all basic channels
all premium movie channels
locals
HD versions of all the above (where available)
an HD DVR

for $111/month before tax? That's not bad. Or am I missing any hidden/other fees?

BTW if it is $111 that's actually cheaper than the E* equivalent:

$90 America's Everything
$20 HD
$5 Locals

$115 total

Repeating my question since it seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Is it true that if I get the Premier package + HD the total cost per month is $111/month after taxes? Or are there additional fees/costs?

Yeah, but every year that few bucks adds up to alot of bucks.

Sounds like Choice (old TC) is losing 15 channels.. seems like that is the biggest change..must be to get more people to upgrade to Extra (old TC+)...

LEFT][/LEFT] Called yesterday and was told I'm grandfathered under old packages as long as I don't change them(TC). I also got a price guarentee of 44.99 but since the increase can't be stopped auto 10.00 credit each month to offset Hd and TC price increase.:D

P.S. I just upgraded new dish and 2 HD boxes on the tenth.

Yeah, but every year that few bucks adds up to alot of bucks.

That is my point as well. Between this, my internet provider, my cell phone and not to mention the things like garbage collection and all the insurance I'm required to have I getting not nickled and dimed but singled and fived to death!!!

Let me get this straight....they are going up on the packages but they gave you a discount? Why?

Yes, for one receiver/DVR. Add $4.99/mo for each additional receiver/DVR. Here in Calif there are no taxes on DirecTV but lots on cable, YMMV.
